The United States Embassy enjoyed its annual 4th of July celebration on Thursday, June 4, one month early, in order to respect the upcoming Ramadhan month, which will begin on June 17 and last for one month.

US Ambassador to Indonesia Robert O. Blake and US Ambassador to ASEAN Nina Hachigian presided over the festivities, which involved brass band renditions of the Star-Spangled Banner and the Indonesian national anthem, Indonesia Raya.

Blake explained that the theme of the event leaned toward “green” development, which supported the US’ focus on building and promoting a green economy and more environmentally sustainable development.

He also praised Indonesia’s performance as a fully functioning democracy, aiming for further collaboration between the two countries in the years to come.

“The US will continue to support Indonesia in the future through its democratic achievements. Democracy is an American value which we have championed since [the country’s birth in] 1776,” Blake told the crowd during the festivities at his residence near Taman Suropati, Central Jakarta, on Thursday.

He added that moving the 4th of July celebrations to June 4 was one done out of respect for the upcoming Ramadhan month, which will last from June 17 to July 17.

If the 4th of July was on a Saturday in Israel they wouldn’t celebrate it that day?

It’s our holiday so WE celebrate on July 4th. If the Muslims have a problem with that too damn bad. Muslims only fast during the day during Ramadan so they can bring their own dates and watch the fireworks after sunset.

Standard Obama State Department talking points.

The muslims won't see this as a sign of respect, they'll see it for what it is...a sign of weakness.

If there is a security threat, a US embassy does not celebrate the 4th of July on the 4th of July.

I have been to three US embassies for the 4th of July party and the party never took place on the 4th of July.

Asinine. What does it take to properly recognize July 4th on July 4th?

Capitulating Administrations suck.

Will the Muslims suspend Ramadan in the US on July 4 out of respect?

I never paid much attention to foreign affairs/protocol until the last five or so years, but it seems I NEVER heard of anyone EVER being "offended" by an American celebration on American soil (the embassy in any land is American soil, just as another embassy in America is French or German or whatever .... soil)

I've pretty much had it with offending people ... let's just get them all home

It's not like they're processing a couple of hundred VISA's a day or something

Besides a listening post (which .. a lot of good THAT does) ... I see no purpose for an embassy in a muzzie land

Easy to find 4th of July celebrations in Israel, even on Saturday (such as this year), although many celebrations will take place Saturday night after dark or Sunday depending on who you want to come to the party.
