How Donald Trump helped Democrats pass Obamacare
WaPo ^ | 22 JUN 2015 | Marc A. Thiessen

In the announcement speech for his presidential campaign, Donald Trump railed against Obamacare. “We have a disaster called the big lie: Obamacare,” Trump declared. “I would repeal and replace the big lie, Obamacare.”

Well, that sounds like something a Republican candidate would say. But there is one problem: Trump helped finance the Democratic takeover of Congress in 2006 — which put in place the liberal majority that passed Obamacare over the objections of congressional Republicans. And he continued to support a Democratic Senate majority after Obamacare.

Democratic House and Senate campaign committees. In 2006 — the year Democrats took back Congress — he gave $25,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (while his son Donald Trump Jr. gave $22,500). They gave Republican committees just $1,000 that year.

In other words, Trump wanted Nancy Pelosi to be speaker of the House and Harry Reid the Senate majority leader. Which is not surprising. At the time he made those contributions, from August 2001 to September 2009, Trump was a registered Democrat.

The author was a George Bush speechwriter. So many Bushies are going after Trump. Dana, Rove, now this guy. The word must have gone out from The Family

The fear is palpable over Trump. Too bad they didn’t dig up dirt with such zeal when Obama hit the scene.

No big surprise...Hustlers are plentiful...In business and politics.

Only solution to the mess we are in is dozens of old ladies knitting in every public square.

The republican author didn’t make Donald Trump be a democrat.

“Which is not surprising. At the time he made those contributions, from August 2001 to September 2009, Trump was a registered Democrat. (He had been registered in New York first as a Republican, then a member of the Independence Party, then a Democrat, then a Republican again, and then became unaffiliated.)

So maybe he came to regret it after Reid and Pelosi rammed through Obamacare? Apparently not. In 2010 — immediately after the passage of Obamacare — Trump continued to donate to Reid. Trump has donated at least $10,400 to Reid, including $4,800 for his 2010 race against Sharron Angle — a victory that helped keep the Senate in Democratic hands and Reid as majority leader. So Trump continued to support Reid as majority leader in the election immediately after the passage of Obamacare.”

It’s disgusting that you would smear Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan detailed exactly what his political evolution was. He didn’t say things just to gather attention and switch positions nonstop. And Reagan was classy, not bomnbastic and rude.

Churchill also switched back and forth from conservative to liberal parties. He also maintained deep personal friendships with powerful liberal politicians..i.e. David Lloyd George.

I heard Trump on Michael Savage, and he revealed his total lack of character and integrity.

How?

By saying that he thinks Obama is probably well-intentioned, but is just incompetent.

Anybody in public life who talks like that DOES NOT WANT TO WAKE PEOPLE UP. Obama is, of course, an illegal alien Muslim Brotherhood operative, put in office by an establishment in Washington wholly owned by the Saudis.

I’m concerned that even Ted Cruz, if he wins, will allow Obama and Hillary! and Holder and the several thousand other CRIMINALS in Washington to skate, on the grounds that “It’s time to move on. It’s time for a new tone. It’s time to get past recriminations.”

Are you an idiot?

You are comparing someone being a democrat in the 1930s and 1940s with Trump being a democrat after LBJ, the 1960s, after Jimmy Carter, after Roe v Wade, after the abortion wars and the Reagan years, and Ted Kennedy, and Bill Clinton and Al Gore, and Obama, and in his mid 60s?

The last democrat president that Ronald Reagan voted for was Harry Truman in 1948, 3 years after he got out of the Army.

Donald Trump’s favorite recent President is Bill Clinton, he says openly.

Dana Perino loves Barack and Michelle. Always giving them the benefit of the doubt. Bring up Ted Cruz, and the hate pours out.

Look how many on Fox loathe Ted Cruz and real conservative positions.

Remember, they went crazy when Hank Williams Jr said be wasn't an Obama fan? Got him fired.

The Saudis own the Bushes, why would they need Obama?

If the Saudis owned Obama, he would be sending the U.S. military to take out ISIS and he wouldn't be negotiating with Iran. Some of the stuff you are saying is silly.

Reagan never supported the democrats once he switched parties. Trump still does and still identifies as one. See my tagline.

Churchill also switched back and forth from conservative to liberal parties.

That's totally false. He was a conservative briefly in his initial political career, then he switched for a very specific reason. He later became a conservative again, for certain reason. He didn't go back and forth willy nilly like you suggest.

You are obnoxious.
FR needs a block user function.
Freepers need a way to filter you out.

First you accuse many freepers of being Kremlin trolls....now you accuse freepers who don’t want to burn Trump at the stake of being idiots.

You need to calm down.
