CHAPEL HILL, NC (WTVD) -- Police are investigating after someone spray-painted the words "murderer" and "black lives matter" on the "Silent Sam" Confederate memorial on the campus of UNC Chapel Hill.
The statue of a Confederate Army soldier was erected on campus in 1913 as a memorial to the more than 300 UNC students who died in the Civil War.
The overnight vandalism came as no surprise to the local chapter of the Sons of the Confederacy. One of its members told Eyewitness News he was actually keeping watch over the statue until about 11:00 p.m. Saturday night, expecting someone would do something to it on the July 4th holiday.

Appeasement will not make them happy, as has been well demonstrated. So the question becomes, will the (remaining) civilized members of American society A) continue to appease, B) do nothing & hope it goes away, C) Stand up and oppose this fascist aggression?
If “C”, does anyone realize what form the opposition must take in order to work? Will they be willing?
IMO, it will continue to be A & B.
Very good example of why we need to have volunteers who would stand watch (taking shifts, of course) at statues and memorials as such. It would be important to have a camera on hand to take photos or videos of possible confrontations with miscreants who profess to act in the name of tolerance (but we know who they are really about).
