With enemies like them, who needs friends?

Why Labor Hates Walker, in Three Charts

[SNIP]

Labor unions rely on density for two reasons. First, unions need monthly dues in order to be able to pay organizers and staff. The more members, the more dues, the more organizing. Second, the more unions that exist in a region, the easier it is to organize. That's because more union employers usually means smaller disparities between the wages paid by different businesses -- meaning less incentive to oppose organizing drives. That's why New York state has the highest union membership rate in the country: New York City's high union density makes it easier to organize.

Again, half of the country's union members work in government. That's high density. Public-sector employee unions work hard -- and spend heavily -- to support elected officials that support their organizing efforts.

And that's why Walker gives labor such conniptions. He demonstrated that unions could be beaten -- and that even in a state that twice backed Barack Obama, he didn't pay a political price for it. Walker has made his defeat of the unions a core part of his pitch to conservative voters. So far, he's running with the front of the pack."

I’m sure they’ll try but they don’t have the sway they once had. Might cost him Ohio but other than that big union states like Michigan were out of reach anyway.

“That’s pretty much the most offensive thing he could say that working people who are standing up for their rights are equivalent to terrorists".

The unions do not speak for working people.

They’ll take credit for it. He’s fine but I don’t think he’ll win.

Labor, foaming at the mouth. Perhaps Trumka should be tested for raboes.

The unions severely overreached in their attempt during the recall. Their thug bully tactics turned off a lot of people who normally voted Democrat - and they voted for Walker.

Wisconsin was literally flooded with union drones at the time - you couldn't cross the street without seeing one.

With their numbers down and having to spread their presence nationwide, I can't see it having a significant impact.

“A Scott Walker presidency is a scary, scary thing for America,” said Phil Neuenfeldt, president of the AFL-CIO’s Wisconsin branch.

I would use that as my slogan if I were Walker

FROM June 5, 2010 NYT:

CONWAY, Ark. — They have knocked on 170,000 doors, made 700,000 phone calls, sent 2.7 million pieces of mail and spent almost $6 million on television and radio advertising.

That is how badly labor unions, by their own count, want to defeat Senator Blanche Lincoln, a Democrat they once supported. Even though Arkansas’s labor force is one of the least unionized in the country, labor has thrown huge support behind Mrs. Lincoln’s primary challenger, Lt. Gov. Bill Halter, in a runoff election on Tuesday.

The unions have made the race here the centerpiece of a new effort to hold union-backed candidates accountable for their votes after they are elected.

FROM June 10, 2010 NYT:

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Senator Blanche Lincoln can hear you, Arkansas. Or so she said again and again as she fought her way through a political near-death experience, as if the state’s voters were a bedside presence pulling her back from the white light of oblivion.

And so she said once more, for good measure, in her victory speech after besting her challenger, Lt. Gov. Bill Halter, for the Democratic nomination in a runoff on Tuesday by four points.

Labor union leaders defended themselves against accusations that they had squandered millions of dollars in support of Mr. Halter. “We didn’t waste any money,” said Alan Hughes, the president of the Arkansas A.F.L.-C.I.O. “Here’s an 11-year incumbent who won by only 10,000 votes in a runoff, and we had to battle President Obama and President Clinton.”

By August, when the state’s unions meet in Hot Springs to decide on their endorsements, they may be ready to reconsider their declaration of war against Mrs. Lincoln.

The back-and-forth with unions will only help raise Walker’s profile among potential Republican voters, said GOP strategist Ford O’Connell.

Unions should go to the New York Times and bond with the MSM on this issue... maybe enlist a few thug groups of illegals...angry black gang bangers can't hurt... By all means, throw Walker in that Briar Patch..
