Mayor Michael Coleman announced Wednesday the termination of the citys contract with Redflex, effective immediately.
Redflex is the company that handled Columbus red light camera program before a state law forced the city to cease issuing citations.
The announcement comes after a Redflex executive pleaded guilty to charges relating to bribing public officials.
Based upon the Citys contract authority, we will be terminating the contract with Redflex immediately, said Mayor Coleman. I support a photo red light camera program because it saves lives, however the actions of the Redflex executives have raised questions about the integrity of their program.

“I support a photo red light camera program because it saves lives,”
No they don’t. They support revenue and overspending.
Oh and bribes.

Bingo! Redflex is getting the red light everywhere. It’s a crummy revenue raiser for corrupt politicians.
Redflex will still sue the city for breach of contract and win a big settlement, which the taxpayers will pay for.
Has happened everyplace else.
The Toledo Blade recently did a piece about the red light cameras there, and the top 5 volume violators receiving citations were....
4 rent-a-car companies, and the CITY OF TOLEDO!!!
I'm not sure the contract matters in the long run. The Ohio legislature essentially banned traffic cameras recently.
They just appeared, installed in the dead of the night.
Horse manure, red light cameras increase accidents, REVENUE collection, bribery, government corruption, and tyranny.
The only things they decrease are yellow light times, and productivity.
It has always been about money, not safety.
In Houston the voters passed a referendum making them illegal. The vendor still sued and won anyway.
It is well known that Redflex is a slush fund for the D party,.
