I have always taken even their jests as a sign of intent.

If you take those indicators seriously, those (allegedly) on our side are all over you calling you a "conspiracy theorist" or "wacko bird" or some such.

Between our enemies, the traitors, and those with incredible 'normalcy bias', sane, aware people can be tough to find.

I didn't see the actual tape, but my sense is that Stewart was being sarcastic, i.e., he was saying that it's absurd for anyone to think that Obama would try to confiscate guns and declare martial law.

This is standard left-wing mockery; whenever they mock the very possibility of something happening, you can be sure it's something they plan to do. We all remember how they said it was absurd to think that anyone might suffer criminal sanctions for opposing gay marriage.
