Calais Has Become Flashpoint in Europe’s Migrant Crisis
New York Times ^ | 05 August 2015 | Katrin Bennholdaug

Thousands of migrants have crowded into a makeshift camp near the port city of Calais, France, close to the entrance to the tunnel underneath the English Channel.

Residents of the camp have used it as a staging ground to hop onto trucks and trains bound for Britain. Migrants have used the tunnel as a transit point for years, but they are doing so in greater numbers this summer — and taking greater risks. Ten people have died trying to cross the Channel since June, according to Médecins du Monde, and the crisis has created long delays and a political uproar.

Katrin Bennhold, a reporter for The New York Times based in London, recently visited Calais for an article about the crisis, and she provides answers to some of the top questions readers are asking about Calais.

Where exactly is the migrant camp?

The camp, nicknamed the “jungle” by residents, is next to a highway bridge about two and a half miles northwest of the center of Calais, in northern France. It is about nine miles from the perimeter of the Channel Tunnel that connects France with Britain. Migrants from the camp often walk that far twice a day in their attempts to cross the Channel.

Can anybody guess why the elites want a 3rd world flood into the 1st world?

This has been happening for at least five decades (if not more).

How long before the cross in the Union Jack is replaced by a crescent?

They gain power by having an ignorant, poor populace. Demagogues have always gained power by making promises to the downtrodden.

They aren’t migrants. They are invaders. If Islam is so great, why are all Muslim countries poor and violent places? Even Muslims don’t want to live in Muslim countries.

Also dilute patriotism and country identification and basically gutting the military effectiveness.

"But many want to make it to Britain — some because they speak some English and already have some family there, others because they believe job prospects are better on the other side of the Channel. A few mentioned the strong British pound, relative to the euro."

Ignorant, eh? They seem to know a surprising amount about economics and trade.

My plan says:

Calais is a port city. Load up “Deportation” ships and take them all back to where they came from.

Really? The number of “migrants” who understand any of that is probably miniscule. What they do know is that where they live is a hell hole and that Britain has an extremely generous welfare policy.

Some were “rescue” on the Med by the Italian coast guard. It has been observed that these are mostly young men of soldiering age.

Can you imagine living in that town and seeing this invasion first hand?

Muzzies are flooding in through the “Chunnel”. The idea of a tunnel under the English Channel was first advanced by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802. The British didn’t want it then & didn’t want it for almost two hundred years after that.

Now they’ve got it. Even the Nazis would have had to get their feet wet.

Traveling through the Chunnel is a very glam thing to do. I wonder how is ridership and is this getting in the way of the month of August summer vacation the French take?

I wonder how the “diversity” crowd in England and France are spinning this? Or are they frightened.

Just their “colonials” coming home to roost; some speak English, others speak French. A disease upon both nations.

And the French thought that the Algerian mess was decades behind them!

America still has a two ocean boundary as before. Kept the Nazis & the Japs out, and however imperfectly, is still somewhat effective. Our Muslim problem is minute in comparison with the Continent.
