More details have been released about the moments leading up to an armed robbery in St. Paul that left the 16-year-old suspect dead.

Four teens have been charged in connection to the incident: 16-year-old Donte Edward Foster of Woodbury, 17-year-old Malcolm James Devion Golden of St. Paul, 16-year-old Kendell Anthony Lewis of St. Paul and 16-year-old Nautica Delshaun Cox of St. Paul.

The alleged crimes started at 4:40 a.m. Friday, July 31, after a man reported that his silver sedan had been stolen from an alley behind his house. Two loaded guns were inside the vehicle, the victim reported.

Ten minutes later, police were called to the Cub Foods on Clarence Street in St. Paul on a report that a man had been robbed at gunpoint at a nearby bus stop. He said a teen wearing a red and black long-sleeved shirt, tan pants and face mask ordered him to empty his pockets. The teen then left in a silver sedan.

At 10:26 p.m. that same day, police were called to Monument Park on Summit Avenue on a report of a shooting.

A man told police that he came to the bluffs to watch the blue moon, and he struck up a conversation with a woman sitting nearby. As they were chatting, a boy – later identified as Golden – approached them and asked to use his cellphone to call his mom. As the victim was standing up, another teen wearing a black mask pointed a semi-automatic handgun at him and ordered him to empty his pockets.

The victim had a valid permit to carry and also took out his gun, shooting the suspect several times.

The suspect was identified as 16-year-old Lavauntai Broadbent of West St. Paul, who died at the scene despite the man’s efforts to administer first aid. The woman who was sitting with the victim called 911 as the victim took off his shirt and tried to save Broadbent.

Officers spoke with Broadbent’s mother, who said Golden told her that Broadbent had been shot. Golden was then arrested.

On Saturday, Aug. 1, police found the stolen silver sedan, which was being driven by Lewis. They say they also found stolen property from the Cub Foods robbery in the vehicle.

Police then interviewed Foster, who admitted to stealing the silver sedan and being with Broadbent when Broadbent robbed the man at the bus stop. He said they switched the license plate of the silver sedan after they stole it, according to the complaint.

In an interview with police, Cox also said he was with Broadbent during the robbery at the bus stop.

Foster said he was with Broadbent, Golden and Lewis during the robbery that Friday night. He said Lewis handed Broadbent the gun and that he heard multiple gunshots. Golden ran away, and Lewis and Foster got in the silver sedan and drove away, according to the complaint.

Investigators say Broadbent’s social media posts indicate he was a member of the Shoota Boy Gang.

Foster has been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, vehicle theft and reckless discharge of a firearm. Golden has been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and one count of vehicle theft. Lewis has been charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, vehicle theft and reckless discharge of a firearm. Cox has been charged with aggravated robbery and vehicle theft.

Quaker lads out for a ride. It is so threatening when one of those racist, concealed carry guys interrupts the joyride. Now a family has to have a funeral. They will probably crowdfund to pay for it. Rev. Al will no doubt show for the funeral and possibly ever Barack Hussein Obama. Punk was slow on the draw and the good guy killed him graveyard dead!! Here’s to you Mr. 2A dude!!

None of these perps live in this upscale neighborhood.

They are going where the money (and carry permits)reside.

Eventually, they’ll figure it out and try to make a living off of their own pathetic neighbors.

Sons of Barack.

That's a statement ... a confident assertion ... not a question.

Little Sarah Palin lookalikes out forcing their Tea Party ideals on others.

Yup, followed orders, emptied his pockets of his gun... and emptied the gun at the masked perp. Nice ending.

Here’s the upcoming issue. I promise you that the miscreant’s family will try to convict the person with the carry permit (it’s a carry permit in MN, not conceal and carry).

The victim shot the suspect several times.

“Why did he have to shoot my good son 5 or 6 times?”

Until the threat has been stopped, was my training when I took my Carry Permit classes.

Now if I’d shot good old Lavauntai, I’d have a tough decision to make.

Portrait? Or landscape?

“Why did he have to shoot my good son 5 or 6 times?”

'Cause your no-good, misbegotten bastard threatened him with death or grave bodily harm. End of discussion.

Amazing that blacks make up 12.9% of the population but make up most of the violent crime. The elephant is in the room yet our PC pals cannot see it.

My prediction is that when all expenses are tallied up the net drain on the taxpayers will be at least two million dollars. Such expenses as trial and incarceration and shrinks and therapists for these misunderstood imprisoned yoofs. Also the cable TV and weight lifting equipment in prison

I am sure that Lavauntai Broadbent was a good kid. He would have never hurt nobody. He was tiring his life around ........

I am glad he won’t be a danger to others any longer.
