Virginia recalling specialty license plates featuring Confederate battle flag

Virginia is recalling the 1,691 specialty license plates featuring a Confederate battle flag, state officials said Thursday.

But it's unclear how quickly the flag tags will disappear from roadways.

The affected motorists will be sent new Sons of Confederate Veterans tags along with a letter telling them they have 30 days before the old plate is invalid, said Department of Motor Vehicles spokeswoman Brandy Brubaker.

However, the replacement tag doesn't exist yet. The DMV will work with the heritage group to come up with a new flagless plate design, Brubaker said. Then the plate has to be manufactured and sent to holders of the specialty plate.

"We're working as quickly as possible to get this done," she said.

The Virginia chapters of SCV need to show some backbone and stand up to McAuliffe and his commissars.

I saw a rear decal in a truck window of the GBF and a statement beside that read “Fighting Terrorists since 1861”

I want one.

There are some really nice suburbs around Richmond....but Richmond itself is becoming more like Baltimore every day.

Last night before the debate I was watching a film entitled “Thunder in Carolina” (1960), about stock-car racing, and starring Rory Calhoun. Shot on location in either North or South Carolina, and included real footage of a small-town parade. Lots of Confederate flags waving, on floats with pretty gals, young kids lined in the streets, and such. All a simple reflection of cultural and historical pride.

This Mao-like attempt to eradicate Southern culture, and trying to re-educate the populace into thinking this imagery equates to some kind of virulent Naziism and must be banished from sight is a complete attack on our history and culture. And the cowardice of our leaders (like Niki Haley, etc.) in bowing down to this leaves me with nothing but the most bitter contempt I think I’ve ever had for any politicians who ever came down the pike.

Something tells me a lot of license plates will be stolen or lost in a boating accident, who doesn’t take there license plate with them when they go fishing.

I wonder what will happen when they try to recall all the Va. Don’t Tread on Me plates.

If I were in possession of one of those plates, I would tell them they’d have to come and take it at gunpoint.

If they could do so, that is. We’re armed.

I agree completely. While my position has been made clear about a state-endorsed use of the Confederate flag, an individual should without question absolutely have the freedom to display that symbol on a license plate. They pay for a specialized plate and no agency should deny it!

Sure and shamefully, once upon a time the Southern region was once the most reliable 'RAT part of the country. That part of Southern culture should and has been thoroughly repudiated. It has thankfully "gone with the wind" as the old 'RATs have left us. The South of the recent past has been transformed -- quite remarkably -- into the most pro-God, pro-life, pro-gun and anti-sodomy region of the nation. The South is where Ronald Reagan kicked off his presidential campaign!

And it's emerged to become the most liberty-loving part of the country with its strong Right to Work laws, ensuring freedom for all.

The map above reveals that the "Solid South" has indeed returned, solidly on the side of enterprise, capitalism and rights for both the employer and employee. Today's Southern culture is one of undeniably Christian (and Jewish) values and a mighty Conservative bulwark against the liberalism that infests much of the north.

It has been my experience that it has long been the most pro-gun, pro-God, pro-Liberty portion of the country. This is no recent transformation, despite the 150 year old apparent cognitive disconnect of slavery (practiced in the North as well, and not a major issue until there were no profits from new slaves being brought in).

Note, too that those who came to the new world, whether as landed gentry or as bond servants (indentured) all came here seeking freedom from the miseries of Europe, or seeking wealth (essentially the same thing), or the freedom to worship Almighty God as they chose.

To live on the frontier had its hardships and perils, and the freedom to defend self and home(bear arms), and even to hunt was no longer reserved to the few, but a necessity practiced by all.

The biggest reason the Democrat party became so entrenched in the postwar South is that they were not Republicans. One need only look at the weeds growing over the foundations of farms, mills, and homes to hate anything Republican--after all, it was a Republican who had been the Commander in Chief of the armies which burned a tremendous amount of the South, if it hadn't been outright looted. Some magnificent edifices survived, mainly because they were used for headquarters for the invaders or field hospitals. But Lincoln's Party became the symbol of all the South hated: burned or 'foraged' crops, burned businesses and farms, and homes, land stolen for 'taxes', and with him, so did the party of Lincoln.

Many of those disenfranchised as a result of the War drifted west into the territories to seek their fortune anew.

That enmity survives still, muted by time in a people whose ancestors are famous for carrying blood feuds for centuries, but it essentially ensured the South would vote Democrat for generations as surely as the LBJ "Great Society" bought the Black vote.

It is only that the Democrats have become so anti-gun, anti-freedom, and anti-God which has caused the change to the Republican Party. As recently as the 1960s it was not so in the region.

Ultimately, people will believe what they believe and shed the party labels in favor of their beliefs. Frankly, the same thing is going on within the Republican Party as it creeps Leftward in its allegedly centrist politics, all the while calling strict Constitutionalists among its ranks "extremists".

Consider, JFK or Hubert Humphrey could run as a Republican today and fit right in, and you get a solid feel for how far away from Goldwater and McCarthy we have gone.

Oddly enough, as much as the Republican Party has shifted to the Left, so has the Democrat Party shifted toward Communist Totalitarianism, something which can only be achieved by tearing down the very foundations, moral, legal, and philosophical, upon which this country is built. So many Southerners have served or are serving in the Armed Forces, it is difficult for them to vote for a Party which is so anti-gun, anti-God, and anti-American. Hence the Southern shift to voting Republican. Establish a new party to the Right of the Republicans (or restore the Republican Party of the 1950s), and likely that would become dominant.
