In baseball it’s rare for someone to hit a knuckleball out of the park. The erratic movement and slow velocity just don’t work like a 98 mph fastball straight down the middle of the plate. Cruz took a question intended to cause a clumsy swing and miss, or at most a slow roller to first. The ball instead ended up somewhere out in Section D of the parking lot. Kasich got the same pitch, tried to copy Cruz’s swing, and dribbled it back to the mound for an easy out.
