While the director may have been right to not show the incident, Barnes says it should have been mentioned. When I was sitting there in the theater, and the movies timeline skipped by my attack without a glance, I was like, Uhhh, what happened?
The film also leaves out an incident with hip-hop artist Tairrie B, whom Dre punched in the face twice after she dissed him on a track. And theres no mention of his violent relationship with girlfriend Michelle who has described her relationship with the rapper, saying: I was just a quiet girlfriend who got beat on and told to sit down and shut up.
In the essay, Barnes calls out Dre and fellow N.W.A member Ice Cube for rapping about violating women and then actually doing it while trying to maintain that it never happened. Thats what theyre trying to do with Straight Outta Compton: Theyre trying to stay hard, and look like good guys....
