Why I’m endorsing Ted Cruz for president (Steve Deace)
Washington Times ^ | Wednesday, August 19, 2015 | Steve Deace

Posted on 08/19/2015 8:00:59 PM PDT by Isara

---

First, Mr. Cruz is the one candidate in this primary who has never looked the other way when the GOP establishment sold out conservatives or betrayed the trust of the American people. ...

Second for Mr. Cruz is electability. Starting with the primary, conservatives can only coalesce to defeat the GOP establishment if there is a viable, full-spectrum conservative in the race. And not only can no one question Mr. Cruz’s conservative credentials, but he has raised the most hard money of any GOP presidential candidate (and an astonishing $50 million overall). He’s already drawing massive crowds and building organization in southern Super Tuesday states that surpass what most of his campaign rivals have on the ground ...

...In terms of electability, every GOP presidential victory of the past four decades had three things in common:

1) The nominee inspired the party’s large evangelical base in the primary.
2) The nominee won the Catholic vote in the general with a strong, pro-life message.
3) The nominee won the middle class vote in the general on kitchen table and national security issues.

---

Third and finally, it’s not just enough to have courage of conviction and the resources to win. You must be able to lead the country once elected, and this debate isn’t as simple as choosing between a governor or senator to helm the office of president. We’ve had governors who were great presidents (Reagan) and governors who were not (Carter). And one of the greatest presidents we ever had, Lincoln, was a one-term legislator before moving into the White House.

Besides, most governors are managers and not ideologically driven, especially most Republican governors. We need a leader who represents radical change for the better, not someone who just manages the decay better.

Why I love Ted Cruz and expect him to lose..

You are picking anoher GOP candidate and placing your hops on him. He is anti-establishment and so he will has not help within the establishment.

While that is a good thing, it is also a bad thing. Without support of Congress, he will fail.

What will change the system is Trump. Hate to say that but really, the GOP really needs a cleansing and that means an outsider with no connections to the GOP. Only then we might think about another GOP candidate in the future.

The GOP has failed us in so many ways that it should not be necessary to explain - but of course most of Americans seem to be ignorant of what is happening.

At any rate, the best thing that could happen “for” America is that Trump wins and picks Cruz as his Vice President. That would mean 16 years of getting America back to where it belongs! Go Trump!

Trump has no consistency with his beliefs. Judging from his past, you have no idea where he will stand tomorrow.

In 2013, Cruz was in favor of legalization for illegal aliens within the United States. In the recent campaign, he has stated that he wants to secure the border before "any conversation" is had about what to do with illegals. IOW, he'll probably declare it's impossible to deport them all and will come out for legal status.

I'll stick with Trump who has put business and reputation at risk to stand tall and not back down.

I am FORCED to agree with you “somewhat”...

However; Germany did not do well with fast taking outsiders or Italy.. i.e. Hitler, Mussolini

“US”... Hiring a Crony Capitalist as President.. is what has been done for the last elections.. Mistake..

TRUMP does talk a good game.. all right wingny and stuff..
like Hitler.. who said one thing and did another things..

Like Obama, Bush and the CLintoons.. so easy to fool republicans...

Speak sweet nothings in their ears(pubbies).. the gullible bastards will follow you ANYWHERE...
PROOF: Boehner, McConnell, Lindsey, McLaim, about 200 others..

Trump will have the same problems with the GOPe establishment as Cruz would..

I Just think Cruz is better set in his convictions and I suspect he will be better at getting things done than trump. But bigger reason I want Cruz over trump, I don’t trust trumps recent move to the right. Cruz has been to the right for ever.

Also, ask yourself this.. With trump being such a hands on, control every aspect of his business guy...

who is going to run his show while he is in the white house?

I stand with Ted

NOW is the time for good conservatives to come to the aid of THE candidate.

Get off your keister and support him financially and any other way you can. We have the GOPe rattled and on the run. It is time for the grass roots to rise up

Ted Cruz: ‘When It Comes to Immigration: Legal, Good; Illegal, Bad’

Ted Cruz Reminds Americans Rubio, Walker, and Bush, All Supported Amnesty For Illegal Immigrants (video)

There should be no pathway to citizenship for those who are here illegally. I don’t support amnesty. And I find it really striking at the Cleveland debate, that divide was evident for all to see. Let me step back for a second. Let me talk about the amnesty issue. Because I actually think the amnesty issue is broader than just another policy issue on which people can disagree. President Obama famously said his goal was to fundamentally transform the United States of America. And one of the critical tools he is using to try to do that is to allow millions of people to come here illegally. There’s seven billion people on the face of the planet, and an awful lot of them would like to come here. Now if they want to come here legally and follow the law, great. You and I both come from immigrant families who followed the law.

But the Obama plan is to allow millions to come in illegally and try to grant them amnesty, grant them a pathway to citizenship, and they believe they’ll vote Democrat in perpetuity to keep the big-government Democrats in power. It is a transformational policy, if amnesty goes through. It changes who we are as a country, if Obama and the Democrats succeed in this. And what’s striking in Cleveland, is a majority of the candidates on that stage have advocated amnesty, and not just advocated amnesty, but advocated it for years. Many of them vocally, vigorously, publicly. As you mentioned, you heard my friend Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) join Chuck Schumer in authoring the Chuck Schumer amnesty plan. In doing so, he was enthusiastically supported by Jeb Bush. In doing so, he was enthusiastically supported by Scott Walker. And President Obama.

Both CNN and Politifact did fact-checks of my statement that a majority of candidates on that stage have supported amnesty, and both of them concluded, yep, it’s true. They went through the records of one after the other after the other. And let me tell you why that matters so much. We remember back in 2012, where we nominated a candidate, Mitt Romney, a good man. But someone who had proposed Romneycare. And the problem was, when it came to the general election, when you have a candidate who’s been an advocate for health insurance plan almost exactly like Obamacare, our nominee wasn’t able to make the election about Obamacare. He wasn’t able to challenge Barack Obama effectively on Obamacare, because he had written a proposal just like it.

The same thing is true in this instance. If we nominate a candidate who’s been a vigorous, vocal, and aggressive advocate of amnesty, then the Republican candidate won’t stand up and challenge Hillary Clinton on amnesty, and certainly won’t do so effectively. Because anyone who tries to do so, the response will be: Gosh, just a couple of years ago, before you were running for president, you agreed with me [that] we should grant amnesty.

I have never supported amnesty and never will support amnesty. I believe in the rule of law. You know, at the end of the day, these principles aren’t complicated. When it comes to immigration: Legal, good; illegal, bad.

Well, comparing Trump to the Nazi’s is a bit much! Do you think that he has any ideas that would support such comparisons?

Really, this is about Democracy, not Germany and their past problems.

We are talking about America and it’s direction for the future. Maybe we should just not talk about change or problems because it brings up thoughts of the past?

Wow, can any politician or anyone for that matter bring up the past? Sorry, but while that is relevant, that is not the case here...v

I do like that you are bring up advocates - ie the Republican Party, of Trump, they hate the idea of an outsiders. No connections to the GOP means that they do not owe allegiance to the party...a good thing!

Very true there is ONLY one reasonable candidate..
Not that the other guys are idiots their not..

Cruz has be been prepared for THIS particular job..
Seems Cruz’s live has prepared him.. for this..
He hits it out of the park from every angle I can see..

America would be robbed even worse than it’s being robbed ..WITH OUT.. Cruz at this time specifically..

I’m for Cruz... pity America rarely picks the best guy..
But Cruz is super smart.. he might have Ace’s up his sleeve..
Now is not the time to turn on TRUMP...
BUT; alas, the time “IS” coming..

Here's the rub:

"There should be no pathway to citizenship"

He equates amnesty with a pathway to citizenship. He is not ruling out legal status here. But here's the big lie: that you can grant people legal status in this country but keep them away from a pathway to citizenship. Once you grant someone legal status, there is no way you can keep them from eventually having a pathway to citizenship. Those who claim otherwise are lying to us.

I am for Ted, but Trump will not be criticized by me.

Jeb and Marco along with Scott will take up the cause of destroying Trump and I will not participate in it because Trump is waking the sleeping giant of public opinion out there that is truly fed up the business as usual politics that gives them the short end of the stick.

Please show your source and information for this claim.

Ontheissues.org seems to have a decent summary of positions held:

Donald Trump

Ted Cruz

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/13/us/cruz-tries-to-claim-the-middle-ground-on-immigration.html?_r=1

“What Mr. Cruz has tried to articulate in both word and deed is a middle ground. It got no support from Democrats in Washington, but it goes further than many on the far right want to go by offering leniency to undocumented immigrants here already: A path to legal status, but not to citizenship. A green card with no right to naturalization.

Immigration-reform legislation from the Senate’s so-called Gang of Eight passed that chamber in June and includes a 13-year path to citizenship. Mr. Cruz pushed unsuccessfully for amendments that would have, among other things, eliminated the citizenship component.

Asked about what to do with the people here illegally, however, he stressed that he had never tried to undo the goal of allowing them to stay.

“The amendment that I introduced removed the path to citizenship, but it did not change the underlying work permit from the Gang of Eight,” he said during a recent visit to El Paso. Mr. Cruz also noted that he had not called for deportation or, as Mitt Romney famously advocated, self-deportation.”
