State Fair is one of my all time favorite movies. It's also one of the sexiest! I'm still reeling from the beautiful, graceful, fabulous Jeanne Crain! And the sexual tension between Dana Andrews and her is beautiful.

The reference to men as “boys” in the mid-20th-century is curious.

They were just boys, mostly under 20 barely out of high school when they went in but they were men when they came home.

WOW! The movies on that page are amazing.
I've actually seen Jeanne Crain and Lucille Ball in person.
Jeanne Crain and a slew of others, Alan Ladd, Gilbert Rowland, Regis Toomey, Noah Beery Jr, Frankie Avalon on a movie set in a town I lived in and Lucille Ball walking through the airport terminal in Las Vegas...I had no idea she was so stunningly beautiful.

Lucy must have had a rep as a looker back then since they were using her to sell beauty products.

It's true that most of the men who fought in World War II were boys.
I didn't mean that. I meant in the movies. Dana Andrews was well into his 20s and maybe his 30s when he made State Fair, but he was referred to as a "boy". They did that routinely in the mid-20th-century. In popular songs too.

I loved the movie “State Fair”. My elderly mother often talked about her youth and how the local state fair was the “social event of the year”.
That was during the days before television, malls and middle-class vacations.

Homer you can't be thanked enough for all the work you've done. I almost hate for the war to end LOL!
I have afunny story about Jeanne Crain. I was maybe 12 when they came to the town I lived in. My dad took us out to a remote location where they were filming. They had mobile homes for dressing rooms.
Everyone is watching the filming except my dad, he was over by Jeanne Crain's dressing room. I walked over to see why and there she was in the window with nothing but panties and bra on.
