Israel confirms jail for Druze ex-MP over Syria trip

Israel’s Supreme Court on Monday confirmed a one-year jail sentence handed down to a Druze former MP for visiting Syria, an “enemy country”. ... He went in 2007 to Syria, with which Israel is technically still at war, as part of a delegation of 300 Druze religious leaders. ...

For a long time, the state of war between Israel and Syria was only on paper - but military clashes are now active, and Israel is supporting the al-Nusra front, and the overthrow of the Syrian regime.

For the Druze population of southern Syria and northern Israel, this is a risky situation.
