I’m curious as to why it was “unlawful” also.

The video shows that the dude just had the handgun sitting next to him. Which is, stupidly (on the legal side), a violation.

At the 35sec mark, the popo/Blaze added a comment about him not immediately stopping.. Wow. The dude turned into the gas station within 10-15sec of the cop U-turning and flashing lights. There's also a comment about him saying to put hands on the car four times, cops like to repeat orders like that, the dude was getting out of the car while the cop said it. If those comments were police-added, it really looks like they're trying to cover an overzealous officer. The only dumb thing the guy did was reaching for it when the officer asked, but like someone else mentioned, that's just human nature when someone asks about an item by you.
