anyone else think it odd that US dependents are being told to leave a NATO ally? I understand Turkey has changed for the worse, but it still is disturbing.

Seems to me that the danger is in not watching the Turks.
I think Erdogan is looking for some trouble.

Dependent evacuation is a big deal. I can only remember this happening once in recent history, Operation Fiery Vigil, the eruption of Mt Pinatubo in the Philippines circa 1990. The evacuation is so far voluntary, which means it is strongly encouraged. The US military and diplomatic establishment in Turkey is extensive and this impacts thousands of Americans. People here are correct that more is to be feared from Turk Islamacists than ISIS in Syria. Pretty telling indication of how bad things are in Turkey. Sounds like the Turk government has told the US it can't guarantee ‘safety of American nationals’ after air strikes start.

I'm more surprised that US dependents are still allowed on any NATO facilities.

I think we should review/adjust the outdated NATO agreements, in the next administration.
Preferably with Trump leading the new deal.

Or have you not been watching what the EU has been doing?

If the UK does not exit the EU, I see zero point in the alliance, and either way, I see no logic in the USA paying vast sums to be the military arm for the anti-USA EU.
