What will Nancy Pelosi make Boehner do to save his Speakership?
americanthinker.com ^ | 9/6/15 | Ed Straker

When someone challenges the Speaker of the House (by a technical procedure known as declaring the office of the speakership "vacant"), usually the leadership holds what is basically a vote of confidence immediately to show that a majority of the members still support the Speaker. Otherwise it raises doubts about whether the Speaker still has the support of the majority of the members.

But that's not what happened when Rep. Mark Meadows declared the office of the speaker vacant in late July in protest against the accomodationist policies of Speaker John Boehner. The House didn't hold any kind of vote at all, and the delay is telling.

So it looks like Boehner will need Democratic support to stay as Speaker, which would be unprecedented. That means Boehner would be at Nancy Pelosi's mercy. She could demand anything from him and likely get it.

Of course, she is already getting most of what she wants. Boehner has passed spending bills fully funding Obamacare. He has fully funded Obama's illegal amnesty. He has fully funded Planned Parenthood, and the Export-Import Bank. He has refused to set up any select committees to investigate Obama. He has been cooperative on Obamatrade and the Iran deal and many other issues. It's not clear what else she could demand of him, but it seems from here out that Boehner will be her hostage. And I suspect we'll see a lot more of this.

Exit question: Will Republicans tolerate a situation where the Republican Speaker is only speaker by virtue of Democratic votes?

For all intents and purposes, Pelosi is still the Speaker of the House.

Is ANYONE going to run against Boehner?? If not, WHY NOT?? Surely, there is someone in Cincy who is more conservative than Boehner.

JD Winteregg!

He hired Dave Brat’s campaign manager. Brat is the guy who beat Eric Canter (RINO-VA).

Answer: yes, of course. They have been tolerating that already, when it comes to passing legislation. Congressional Republicans can’t discern any difference between themselves and Democrats.

Yeah, during election time, they all claim to be such great leaders in their ads, but as soon as they are elected and go to DC, they forget that and become sheep.

I suppose he could bend over in public but to suggest such a thing might be construed as rude.

REGARDLESS, if this happens...it would confirm his RINO status

I’ve just learned that Matt Ashworth has pulled petitions and is going to challenge Boehner.
http://ashworthforcongress.com/

I ran in the primary last time and Ashworth was in as well but he was late in and didn’t try to raise money. From what I understand this time he is going full out.

He is an extremely smart guy. Has an economics degree and runs a small business.

If you like Trump you’ll like Matt Ashworth.

J.D. winteregg is running again as well. Very nice young guy but pretty liberal when it comes it immigration. I think he’ll have a tough road against Boehner. Ashworth this time can win.

“Exit question: Will Republicans tolerate a situation where the Republican Speaker is only speaker by virtue of Democratic votes?”

We’re still SUFFERING through that in Texas, at the state level. In the last election we managed to clear out the debris in the governor’s office, the Lt. Gov. office (which includes the State Senate), but not the House speakership, where we still can’t get rid of an entrenched RINO. It is not fun.

In this case, perhaps we’ll get lucky and Boener will GET THE MESSAGE if he can’t hold on to office with such a huge majority of Republicans. Prior to Boener, when Republicans were in the majority, they had far fewer votes to spare in a Vacate vote, yet none of our prior leaders ever lost one (and I don’t think ever even had to deal with one).

John Boehner is;

That means Boehner would be at Nancy Pelosi's mercy.

She's had so many plastic surgeries, facelifts, tummy tucks he won't have to get on his knees anymore. He can kiss it with a mere bend at the waist.

There is apparently no limit to the number of times declaring the office of the speakership vacant can be done. So if by some chance the weeping cheetoh survives by teaming up with the witch, a vote can be called the next week and the week after that until such time as he is tossed out.

This gutless GOPE wonder needs to be at a minimum stripped of his speakership and if the voters of OH had half a brain he should be retired.

I suggest he and McConnell will be the death of the GOP.

She’ll probably make him switch to the communist party.

I’d make a better speaker.
