If youre planning on travelling to China, we have two pieces of advice:
- Do not look like a short seller
- Do not go near any chemical factories
Failing to heed the first tip there could get you thrown in jail (or, as Man Groups China chief Li Yifei calls it, sent on a "short vacation").
The consequences of failing to follow the second piece of advice above could be, how should we put this... explosive.
With Beijing still scrambling to contain the fallout (both figuratively and literally) from the devastating blast at Tianjin which killed some 160 people and injured more than 700 last month, the country is on edge. Two additional chemical blasts (both in Shandong) did little to calm Chinas frayed nerves and now, a fourth blast, this time in Zhejiang, has been reported. Heres Reuters:
An explosion shook a chemical plant in the Chinese province of Zhejiang, state media said on Monday, though there were no immediate reports of casualties in a country on edge after blasts killed more than 160 people last month.
The blast caused a fire and thick smoke to bellow from the plant in Lishui city shortly before midnight, state radio said on its official Weibo microblog.
With Tianjin it was sodium cyanide and with Shandong adiponitrile - looking at the visuals below, we can't help but wonder what's now being disbursed into the air over Zhejiang.
Here are the visuals:

I bet this is ISIS sympathizers from Sinkiang, aka Chinese Turkestan in the northwest.

Does China have something analogous to property insurance? If so, there’s one possible explanation, given the reported economic conditions there.

I wonder if these are munitions plants.
Is China pushing the limits to manufacture weapons for some reason or another?

It looks maybe like there is a war going on over there, perhaps involving Korea or the Moslems. I don’t think the area involved is home to many of Mohammed’s spawn, though.

Perhaps it is the Dalai Lama and his warriors?

No it does not, but the Western part of China in the province of XinJiang is another matter.

Occam’s razor says it’s unskilled and poorly trained staff running poorly and cheaply thrown together facilities which produce some very nasty chemicals for export. You know, the ones we import because making them here is too regulated and expensive to achieve compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

One of the problems with Chinese construction is that the suppliers adulterate whatever they supply.
Rebar, for instance, may be spec'd to a minimum diameter by code/architect/engineer, but the supplier and/or contractor will literally stretch the rebar down some percentage, which has been found to be a major cause in building collapse.
I'm sure the same sub-par material probably can be found in the piping of chemical plants.
Say, didn't MoonBeam Brown buy Chinese to repair and maintain Kali bridges?
