What I can tell from that clock is that he didn't build it, unless taking an existing clock, removing it from its original case, and screwing the parts into a small aluminum case counts as 'building.'

It's clear to me that the clock was not homemade, and it was not a kit. You can see the display connected to the main board via a ribbon cable, a 9 volt connector for a backup battery, a secondary board that houses the various pushbutton controls for time setting, alarm time setting, etc., and the AC transformer for primary power.

He took the guts out of an existing clock and crudely repackaged it. Not very impressive work of you ask me.
