A transient is behind bars after police say he attempted to rob a couple with a sword on Sunday evening on the west end of Bozeman.

Diamond Jade Brock Lorenz, 21, is being held in the Gallatin County jail on a felony charge of attempted robbery. He will appear in Gallatin County Justice Court on Tuesday morning to have his bail set.

According to charging documents:

Shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday, Bozeman police were dispatched to a field near the intersection of Fallon and Ravalli streets for a report of a robbery in progress.

A man told police he had been walking with his girlfriend in the field south of Fallon Street and west of Ferguson Avenue when they were approached by a man carrying a sword.

The man, later identified as Brock Lorenz, asked the man if he had heard of “pirating.” The man said Brock Lorenz then tried to grab the man’s knife, which was in a sheath the man was carrying.

Brock Lorenz said he was only messing with the man and said, “I didn’t mean to hurt no one.”

I think he's going to find out that the courts won't see it that way.

Diamond Jade sounds like a stripper's name.

Brock Lorenz sounds like a private eye.

The guy has probably done too many drugs.

Since he's a pirate, hang him.

Isn’t it curious that virtually all criminals profess to be innocent?
