Stephen Colbert: Well, the right to have an individual firearm to protect yourself is a national document, in the Constitution, so shouldn’t that also be applied national…

Jeb Bush: No. Not necessarily…There’s a 10th amendment to our country, the Bill of Rights has a 10th amendment that says powers are given to the states to create policy, and the federal government is not the end all and be all. That’s an important value for this country, and it’s an important federalist system that works quite well.

What an embarrassment. What do some republican voters see in this guy? I don't understand why other than name recognition based on the family he belongs to to.

The Second Amendment’s guarantee of the right to keep and bear arms is in fact both an individual and national right, which was Colbert’s question, a fact ratified by the U.S. Supreme Court. There is no asterisk at the end of the Second Amendment. It is a right already reserved to the people in the Bill of Rights. As for the 10th Amendment, which restricts the power of the federal government, some argue correctly that the 2nd Amendment is what makes the other nine possible.

PERIOD

Yeb/Mushmouth/George III mangles words and thoughts about as well as his older brother.

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

I don’t need this blithering idiot explaining for me what G-d and the framers meant. Go get your shinebox, Yeb.

Almost no one on the right or left can accept the 2nd Amendment in its plain wording. They (the left) deny it permits private access to arms at all or they (the right) quibble about what is included under the term “arms” or they say there can only be common sense limits or that certainly that right doesn’t extend to bad people of various definitions. No. it is absolute or is possibly subject only to the involuntary servitude provision in the Constitution. A tank may not be an “arm” but the cannon mounted in its turret most surely is.

Bush is a complete incompetent. Bar needs to send the short bus to pick him up and take him home. For good.

I really don’t see any point in supporting Comrade Jeb!

I will be eagerly awaiting the announcement that he’s dropping out of the race.

Pending clarification, and I’m sure he’ll be asked this question again, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was addressing things like mental health issues. I do think things like that should be handled by the states rather than the federal government. Including concealed carry reciprocity. I’d prefer the least federal interference with my rights. In a more perfect nation, I’d expect the feds to be protecting my rights.

JEB manages to be on the wrong side of just about every issue. He could give Hillary a good run in the rat party.
