Dem congressman: Ok to challenge the Pope’s traditional views but not his liberal ones.

>> Dem congressman Luis Gutierrez claimed that while he was "challenged" by the Catholic church's teachings on abortion and gay rights and found them "difficult" [but not difficult enough to change his standard liberal positions], no one can really argue the Pope's positions on illegal immigration and income inequality. <<

Impy's Congressman. (I feel your pain!) At least Gutierrez admits he only wants to talk about the Catholic Church's viewpoint when it suits his needs (I bet the rest of the time, he joins his fellow libs in screaming "SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE!!").

Unfortunately for Luis, the catechism of the Catholic Church says the opposite about what issues can be argued. Issues like economics and immigration are considered shades of gray by the Catholic Church, and Pope Benedict noted when he was head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith that faithful Catholics can reach different conclusions and have legitimate different perspectives on those issues.

Abortion and gay marriage, on the other hand, are considered "intrinsically evil" and are always opposed by the Catholic Church. Any Catholic who supports abortion and gay marriage is in violation of dogma of the church. Sorry, Luis. The one bright side for you is the American bishops are usually liberal and gutless, so you'll probably get away with your heresy.
