Jews finding less comfort on the Left
Orange County Register ^ | 09/27/2015 | Joel Kotkin

Jews are a contradictory people. Overall, achievement-oriented and very capitalistic, Jewish educational and self-employment statistics are among the highest for any religious group. They are also politically powerful; amounting to roughly 2 percent of the U.S. population – half their percentage a half century ago – Jews account for nine of 100 U.S. senators and 19 of 435 members of the House. Yet if Jews have achieved significant economic and political power, they have done so primarily as Democrats. Only one of the 28 Jews in Congress is a Republican – Lee Zeldin from New York’s Long Island – and the one independent, Vermont’s Bernie Sanders, is enough of a Democrat to be running, with surprising success, for that party’s presidential nomination. This conundrum befuddles some conservatives. Ann Coulter, the Right’s blonde shock jock, recently thundered about why Republicans were so anxious to support Israel, asking, “How many f–ing Jews do these people think there are in the United States?” The European Experience Those Jews who survived the European experience have had good reason to distrust the Right. After all, ultraconservatives supported Czarist pogroms in Russia, defended the perpetrators of fraud in the Dreyfus case in France (where a Jewish officer was falsely accused of treason) and, most importantly, provided many of the ideological roots of the Holocaust. But, in recent years, anti-Semitism and, particularly, anti-Zionism have shifted ever more to the Left. Over a decade ago, my wife and I visited Serge and Beate Klarsfeld, the famed French Nazi hunters, at their Paris office. Although they expressed concern about the traditional anti-Semitism of Jean Marie Le Pen’s National Front party, they were more alarmed about a rising new virulent strain from a combination of Islamic and left-leaning sources.

Thanks for the linky thing. Sadly, it still seems that a lot of U.S. Jews still have no loyalty to Israel which I find very bothersome. That and the leftist lean that most of them appear to have. One would think that some would have learned their lesson or at least studied the history of their persecution. Baffling.

The article makes a couple good points but when it comes to Jews voting Republican in large numbers, its been predicted many times before and never comes true. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Anyone who is familiar with the old testament knows that the jewish people frequently stray from the teachings of God and then are rebuked and set back on the right path, again and again and again.

I also have trouble understanding how “ultraconservatives” are somehow to blame for the holocaust...but maybe I am missing something obvious.

Really the plight of the jewish people is no different then the plight of the rest of humanity. Regardless of intellectual capacity, when we stray from God we pay a price. The reason isn’t baffling at all...we all do it, it’s called sin.

“Less comfort”??

The TANACH or 5 Books of Moses state from the very beginning that the Jews are stubborn or “stiff-necked” people.

Getting them to change their ways is very difficult. This stubbornness is supposed to be loyalty to G-d, not self-serving, radical-agenda Democrat-Golden-calfeed Jackarses, the Party that would boot them out if it could.

Jews have always championed CHANGE and carried HOPE in their hearts for their betterment and humanities betterment as well. This is why they are always in the forefront of change whether it be revolution or breakthroughs in the Sciences or every other field they apply themselves to. This is why they foolishly voted for a promising unknown, untested quantity called BHO, who promised them...Hope & Change!

They want new, better, cooler and faster leaders.

Since WWII they established the miraculous State of Israel but along with that, they assimilated and became champions NOT of Torah and G-d’s commandments (Mizvot), no, they became champions of the new G-d, the G-d called SOCIAL JUSTICE, gag...

No Torah, No G-d, No belief system, no self-pride have meant that they now care more about saving the LGBTH whales and underprivileged LGBTH Poodle rights than their brethren in Israel.

As they move away from Torah and closer to Gay Rights for Porcupines, they lose focus and stay with leaders who actually harm them, like Obama.

It will take a lot more to push them into the Republican party (as if they haven't seen enough evidence that the POTUS hates Israel and them, by association).

So, then they feel that they are in the safe zone by...disassociating themselves from the State of Israel.

Sorry Jooooz, no can do, you are Hebrews too. So, live up to your heritage and support the ONLY NORMAL, Western Democratic, Free, Liberal nation in the entire region - Israel. They need you!

Don't be SUCKERS (friars in Hebrew) again and again and again!

I don’t mind if you put the “O” back in between the “G” and the “D”. :>}

Yes, I picked up on that too...also blaming conservatives for pogroms and the Dreyfuss affair, WTF!? Surely they can come up with some more recent examples than that. By the left's lights Stalin must've been an 'ultraconservative'

Can't write the name of G-d without that hyphen, it is not customary to do so. Call it habit...
