And gosh, which is it? Was it a great victory over Syrian forces, or do they desperately need US assistance? VOA propaganda is entertaining.

Remember also, under Obama the prohibition against aiming propaganda at US citizenry was lifted. So who knows what the reality is? All I read here is that the US government is mad that their own jihadi group is getting the Stukas over Dunkirk treatment.

The FSA doesn’t exist anymore. In 2011 there was a sizable force of soldiers in mutiny, but that was 4 years ago.

They don’t have armor or artillery, the jihadis do. Pretty obvious who is going to have mass desertions.

I think the TOW anti-tank missiles were highly effective, and they want the US to supply even more.

There may be additional tools that can be offered to stop Assad and Putin. Putin’s true colors are showing in that he, like Assad, is focusing not on ISIS, but on the other opposition. Survival of the Assad regime is now essential to the Putin image. It will be interesting to see how long the Russian people support this adventurism.

Putin is there to support Russia’s long time ally Syria. This their stated agenda, they are not hiding this. Logically Putin is going to hit the insurgents that are the most immediate threat. You think the Russians should make some distinction between insurgents?

I expect Russian ground troops to be doing mainly base security, and maybe recon patrols. Syrian government base security stinks - they keep on getting overrun. I don't expect that ordinary Russians will be thrilled about a country that is unlikely to become part of the Russian empire generating thousands of Russian body bags. Putin does need to win elections.

I think he is making a distinction. He’s using almost all his force against those who are the least influenced by Islam. As you’d expect, he’s doing his best to claim that their is no rational alternative to Assad dynasties tyranny. Putin is, after all, himself a president for life. Why should he favor another form of government?

50% of Russia’s budget is derived from oil revenue. World is in and economic depression. Price is $50/$60 below what it needs to be in order for the Russian budget to balance.

As such, Russia is getting ready to shake up the oil industry in the ME. That’s why he’s there.

Every notice that Putin didn’t need to hit Syria with cruise missiles? 900 miles, from the Caspian Sea, right?

They may be able to hit Riyahd from there.
