U.S. naval vessels sailing through international waters in the South China Sea, including areas claimed by China, cannot be considered provocative, the U.S. Navy's most senior uniformed officer said on Thursday, while a Chinese newspaper called for a firm response to any "unscrupulous" U.S. behavior.

China has overlapping claims with Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan and Brunei in the South China Sea, through which $5 trillion in ship-borne trade passes every year.

Beijing has warned it will not stand for violations of its territorial waters in the name of freedom of navigation. The United States says international law prohibits claiming territory around artificial islands built on previously submerged reefs.

"...cannot be considered provocative, the U.S. Navy's most senior uniformed officer said on Thursday..."

Sure - but that's before Obozo weighs in on it.
We can expect an apology to be issued shortly....

“Is Barack Obama Actually TRYING To Start World War III?”

In this case the problem originates with China, which has been engaged in a decades long buildup into offensive military and political operations well beyond its existing borders. China’s seizure of the Spratley reefs is designed to seize control of the China Sea regions which may contain major deposits of oil and gas, controls one of the world’s most important international maritime shipping lanes, aeronautical flight paths, and strategic naval corridors. China’s seizure of this region of the South China Sea also places China in a strategic position to threaten all of the bordering nations who already have overlapping territorial claims to the Spratleys. China’s attempt to convert the Spatleys into Chinese territory has been a major threat for many U.S. Presidents to contend with and not just Obama’s Administration.

This is what belligerent countries do when the United States projects weakness. You’d think left leaning American voters would get it by now.

That one started June 25, 1950. We’ve lost almost 100,000 KIA in it’s various battles. It wasn’t Cold.
