Technically wearing of gold in Islam is haram, forbidden for men.

The second part of the shahada cannot be inscribed in the ring, again that is considered haram. Only the ring of the prophet has such an inscription.

Mohammed reportedly wore a signet ring, not a wedding band.

Muslims leaders are expected to wear the ‘Allah ring,’ especially during the course of their duties. Other muslim males can also wear the ring as long as it is not to show off.

Gold is only meant for females, but gold plated items and alloys can be permitted for men.
