You nailed it .... secular Jews are as bad as the anti-Semites in many cases.
The majority of my family vote Republican because we have family members living in Israel and we fear for our homeland..but there a few young cousins in my family who vote Democrat, even though they are rich, and cheap, they don’t see Israel as “Their problem” same goes for my Mom’s friends. I follow one of them on facebook since my Mom doesn’t have facebook and I do, she NEVER posts anything about Israel, only about her day and how much she loves Hillary Clinton and supports Planned Parenthood, that is their #1 priority, abortion, could care less about Israel, sad isn’t it..they care more about murdering babies than protecting Israel’s existence. Lucky for my brother his girlfriend who is Jewish is VERY Conservative. When we met she said that I would never meet someone as Conservative as her, then she started talking to me, and she said “Ok you win” :-)
I am a secular Jew. And my very religious family are supporters of both Democrats and Israel. They have not been able to escape the Progressive brainwashing of the 20th Century. So your supposition that an atheist Jew is not a huge supporter of Israel is wrong....in fact, at family Sedars over the years, this atheist sounded like “some Zionist” radical, as they are programmed to believe..until now that one of our kids moved there, married, had babies, and has an Iron Dome destroying missiles overhead. I predict today that if the absolutely unthinkable happens when our country attacks Israel, you will see a traumatized American Jewish population unite to support Israel and march on Washington. There is no doubt in my mind. However, as shocked to the core as I feel reading this news, I hope I never live to see such a day. It will tear the US Military to shreds and will probably ignite a World War. This is truly dreadful news. As much as I wished for Israel to destroy Iranian nuke plants, I am now terrified for our soldiers who will be forced to attack our only ally in the world.
