How the F.B.I. Can Detain, Render and Threaten Without Risk
The New York Times ^ | 03 Nov 2015 | Patrick G. Eddington

Posted on 11/03/2015 8:41:50 AM PST by Theoria

At exactly 5 p.m. on March 13, 2007, just as I was preparing to leave my cubicle in Washington for the day, I got a phone call from the journalist Jonathan Landay of McClatchy Newspapers. To this day, I remember his exact words.

'One of your congressman’s constituents is being held in an Ethiopian intelligence service prison, and I think your former employer is neck-deep in this.'

The congressman was Rush Holt, then a Democratic representative from New Jersey, for whom I worked for 10 years starting in 2004. The constituent was Amir Mohamed Meshal of Tinton Falls, N.J., who alleges that he was illegally taken to Ethiopia, where he was threatened with torture by American officials. My “former employer” was the Central Intelligence Agency, but it soon became apparent that the agency “neck-deep in this” was the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Eight years after Mr. Meshal’s rendition, his case ended up before a three-judge panel of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. The questions hanging over the proceeding were: can the United States government allow, or even facilitate, the rendition of an American citizen to another country for interrogation? And can United States officials themselves conduct rendition and interrogations of American citizens, including threats of torture, on foreign soil?

According to a decision[PDF] handed down last week, the answers appear to be yes. If this decision stands, it will mean that an American citizen overseas who is unlawfully targeted by the United States government for rendition, interrogation and detention with the help of a local government will have no form of redress in the courts.

But when a government becomes destructive of these ends it is the right of the people.....

Are there any arborists available who can assist me? I know there’s something that the tree of liberty needs to be refreshed with periodically, I just can’t quite remember what it is.

I don’t know the complete story, but there is something missing here. The one thing to remember is that the our house is full of bad people looking for ways to subvert this nation. I have serious doubts the FBI would knowingly be involved in in this sort of activity.

Well, then why doesn’t the FBI detain and incarcerate Hillary?

The FBI is investigating Hillary which will lead to Obama.

The New York Times is a Democrat accomplice.

I’m hoping that since Obama freed 6,000 drug dealers from prison, that there will now be enough prison space for all the thieving Democrat politicians and journalists.

The prison space will only be needed briefly by convicted demonicrat politicians and journalists before their sentence is carried out and they are hanged for giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

since Obama freed 6,000 drug dealers from prison
= = =

He could free a “John Doe” (or a muslim equivalent) as one of the 6000, to be freed at a time yet to be determined.

That “Jahadi John Doe” would be of course bo himself.

Expand concept as needed.

Amir Mohamed Meshal, probably a supporter of muslim extremists, was detained, transported and imprisoned by foreign governments, and while detained by them, claims to have been questioned and threatened by FBI agents.

It is plausible that he was questioned by US agents of some sort, just as it’s plausible that the US encouraged Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia to take the actions they did. In the end, however, he was freed, came back to the US, and sued the US.

This is a “he said, she said” kind of story. The fact that he was a supporter of the terrorist government of Somalia makes this about as interesting as Obama ordering the killing of US citizens abroad for being ISIS supporters.

What should be the limits of actions the US can take against its own citizens who aid organizations that want to kill Americans?

Because he is a citizen, and citizens have rights in our form of government. .Gov can't simply say, he is a bad dude, and have determined he is a bad dude without any open court or procedure. Being overseas does not limit .gov, they are still bound by the Constitution.

Sounds good in theory. They’ve been throwing the Constitution away on a daily basis.

Something short of execution, after a trial, of course.

IMHO, considering the conditions in the region, anyone from the US that decides to visit the Middle East is crazy, family or not.
