The Apostle Paul never characterized his motive for persecuting Christians as pathological; he used the term “zeal”.

Spiritual redemption is possible but not, I believe, for problems caused by defects in the physical body which includes the mind. Some serious mental diseases can be at least controlled by drugs, but cannot be controlled by the patient having his bad ideas un-learned and new ideas learned.
