A cascade of Republicans on Monday implored the Obama administration to scrap plans to resettle 10,000 Syrian refugees in the United States next year, saying they pose an unacceptable security risk in the wake of last weekâs terrorist attacks in Paris.
And, in a dramatic twist, the sudden standoff is raising the possibility of a government shutdown next month.
Throughout the day a host of Republican governors around the country, wary that refugees could end up in their home states, blasted President Barack Obamaâs plans. But those governors lack real sway over the process, and some are asking Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) to insert a provision in the Dec. 11 spending bill that would bar more Syrian settlers.
The politics are moving fast: The Democratic governor of New Hampshire, a Senate candidate, is siding with conservatives, and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is reversing his support for a $1 billion spending bill intended to allow in more Syrian refugees after touting the measure just weeks ago. GOP leaders are keeping their options open as they mull whether to try to block new Syrian refugees by adding language to the must-pass spending bill. . .

Which means they’ll cave. As usual.
If you advocate open borders, submit your resignation.
The security of America and the well-being of its citizens is our first obligation. Period.
Thank you Jeff Sessions.
"If those mean-old, wascally Republicans stop those poor women and children from being welcomed here, the gubmint will shut down! Retirees won't receive their SS checks! The gibsmedats won't get their EBT!"
Oh Noooooooo! The fags at Politico have thrown out the “S” word again!!! Fear is all the commie libs have got. When they’re not playing the race card, they throw their “government shutdown” card.
Post 6 was meant to be directed at you.
“Republicans on Monday implored the Obama”
obozo is shaking in his booties.
I’m not expecting a profile in courage from the congressional GOP.
That’s its even bruited though, shows how much the political winds have shifted in the wake of the Paris Massacre.
I don’t want that to happen here.
Shut the government down NOW, or do a coup by the military. I am fine with either one.
Meanwhile, Ogabe has been handing out millions of Visas to any lowlife turd worlder who wants to fly to the US and never leave.
Coupled with the open southern border and you have 50-60 million illegals or should I say undocumented Demoncrats. What’s the check-pant capons in the house doing about that? NOTHING
Threatening to shut down the government won’t work. Having governors voice their objections won’t work. The only way to keep hundreds of thousands of unvetted young Muslim men from being let into this country in the next year is to impeach Obama immediately.
I like how Lucy always have a stoic, I-don’t-give-a-f**k look on her face when she pulls the football away.
“...$1 billion spending bill intended to allow in more Syrian refugees...”
Heck - that’s only $100,000 for each refugee ($600k for mom, dad and four kids). How long are they supposed to live on that?
My wife was ranting about the refugees today. “We already have our OWN homeless that don’t get taken care of - we don’t have the money to take care of refugees!” (”Oh honey - I found out where the money is coming from!”)
Funny - a few weeks ago she was all for taking in the “refugees”. A few discussions with images from FR changed her mind a little bit - but she has a big heart so....
But now it’s “We need to shut our borders NOW!”
True.
They should shut down.
All we want the central government to do is it’s job: to secure the safety of the several states.
Obama’s feds are doing (or trying to do) everything but that, even going so far as to file suit against states that try to defend themselves.
Shut it down. Pay them to stay at home and him to tear divots in turf. They’ll do less harm.
Let the refugees go to a refugee camp in another Muslim country and we’ll send them care packages like we used to do in other refugee situations. They don’t have to come to the US where I’ll live in fear that one percent of their number who they can’t control or silently don’t want to control, will spray my local mall with gunfire. I don’t want to end up a statistic so our elites can gloat about how they’re changing our country permanently. I don’t want to finance their welfare and college education and see them get EEO points so they get hired ahead of Americans who are financing the gravy train. Eff the crony capitalist refugee organizations, the Catholic charities and the liberal Protestant organizations who bring them in and dump them on the public dole. Enough already.
This is total BS. The governors just have to stand firm and they can keep these roaches out of our states. Its root hog or die time.
Pretty much agree. I don’t care if they shut the govt down for the rest of the year. Shut it boys.
