Virginia mayor opposes Syrian refugees, citing WWII internment of Japanese Americans

A Virginia mayor cited America's mass detention of Japanese Americans during World War II in a public announcement voicing his support to deny Syrian refugees the opportunity to resettle in the United States.

In a letter on official city stationery, Roanoke, Va., Mayor David A. Bowers called on local governments and nonprofits to join more than half of the nation's governors who have said they do not want to accept Syrian refugees into their states, citing security concerns after last week's Paris terrorist attacks that killed at least 129 people.

"I'm reminded that President Franklin D. Roosevelt felt compelled to sequester Japanese foreign nationals after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and it appears that the threat of harm to America from [Islamic State] now is just as real and series as that from our enemies then," Bowers said in the statement.

To compare the two is even stupid for a dem.

Words fail me. History is no longer understood.

Or taught.

I don’t seem to recall to many Japanese in America lopping of heads, in workplace violence, of course.

And didn’t some Japanese real immigrants and their sons belong to a very highly decorated military unit for their service of and defense of America? 100th or you know?

He made the national news and George Takei is pissed off about it. I didn’t think Bowers had it in him.

His convoluted understanding of history aside, he manages to make a good point. Is it better to let them all in and have to round them all up later, or just don’t let them in at all?

Your logic eludes me. If you let them all in how many many will it take to round them up after the fact? An equal number perhaps?
Maybe we could all round up each other, without being able to discern motives, and call it a day and watch the rounder-uppers on TV. When we are relaxing and not rounding up each other of course.

"I'm reminded that President Franklin D. Roosevelt felt compelled to sequester Japanese foreign nationals after the bombing of Pearl Harbor..."

Sequester? Is that what they call rounding up people and putting them in concentration camps these days?

You're not making any sense. You're posting gibberish. Read what I said again:

Is it better to let them all in and have to round them all up later, or just don't let them in at all?

It's not a hard question. Concentrate.

Good! Virginia can take them all. The Governor was elected by the Good people of Virginia and if the want a Democrat to rule them, so be it. Anyone today, knowing what they stand for, that votes for a Democrat deserves what they get.

What an ignorant fool. Japanese were Americans and no threat. Muslims are a violent threat to nonmuslims anywhere, their book says so.
