Utterly ridiculous. Defend against what? Seventeen seconds of airspace use? Turkey is the aggressor in this conflict.

I agree, and this shows he is unfit to lead. What a maroon.

And then the Syrian Turkmen, who are supported by the USA and Turkey, shot parachuting pilots in the sky. It seems like this would be a war crime.

This is not about Turkey but about Poland and the Baltic states and ultimately about Germany. As weak as NATO is, it nevertheless is what we have to hold Western Europe together against the nuclear might of Russia and Russia's near monopoly of gas and oil supply to places like Germany.

The breakup of that alliance resulting in a realignment of Germany with Russia and China are the possible consequences of a broken NATO and of missteps in Mideast. We must not confuse Russian adventurism in the Mideast with noble motives anymore than we should ascribe noble motives to an increasingly Islamist Turkey. We should begin to think strategically instead of reacting emotionally to Isis. Yes kill Isis, that is relatively easy if we had a commander-in-chief with the will to do so. But the long-term consequences of a realignment of the balance of power in Europe and the Mideast is a whole new dimension of threat.

Isis is not the ultimate danger, a disastrous inversion of the balance of power in the middle East is the danger because it will be possessed of much of the world's oil, nuclear weapons, and jihadist fanaticism.
