I don’t think it is primarily the left that dislikes black Friday pushing into Thanksgiving Day. I think it is a sad reflection on our society that so many people will rush out of (or skip altogether) sitting down with family and friends and being thankful for all that God has provided throughout the year. It is even more sad that what motivates them to do this is greed for getting more material possessions.

"I'll finally replace my Walkman with one of these new-fangled iPod things. Happy Thanksgiving." I bought three new Walkmans while they were still making them. I also bought a couple more used one at yard sales later. I have hundreds of cassette tapes that still 'work/sound' just fine. When I mentioned this at my weekly poker game, the younger players let out a howl.

The immediate answer lies in the thumbnail-sized computer chip found in my new bank card an EMV chip.
I got my brand new chipped card in August. Fraudulent charges were made on it 2 weeks ago. In 25 years with the same bank, I'd never had a fraudulent charge before.

Our bank sent us new cards with chips on them about 8 months ago after our card had been lost and was fraudulently used. I ran across my very first chip-enabled reader two weeks ago. I realized it was a chip-reader when the swipe didn’t work and the Home Depot person at the self-checkout came over to help. I was not impressed with the new reader; it looked like an amateurish garage job of assembling a prototype unit out of bits in the junk bucket and certainly wasn’t intuitive to use. I would have expected a sleek, 21st century design after all the time they’ve had to design and migrate to the new readers.

You donââ¬â¢t make it to the "top of the heap" by keeping your doors closed or by ignoring changing times and technologies. The newer mousetrap is not always a better mousetrap. Whether that is a lo-fi digital audio device, a non-filament lightbulb, or gasohol.

I haven't used a Walkman since tube socks were still in fashion. I really have no fond memories of them. They sucked down batteries especially when you had to FF and rewind a lot. Also, you got sick of hearing the same few tapes over and over.
I've had my iPod classic for close to 10 years now but finally ready to upgrade that. Turns out that with the streaming music option on iTunes, you need the new style iPods in order to store the songs locally and listen to music offline on them.
But I do miss the days of tube socks.

Progressives and Big Labor are petulant about the dirty dozen stores that will remain open on Thanksgiving DaySome of us want to work on Thanksgiving. I applied to work on the holidays. No luck yet, but I'm still searching for seasonal work. The more that stores stay open, the more seasonal jobs there are available.
