Pro-life leaders slam Ben Carson’s charge that they engage in ‘hateful rhetoric’

Pro-life leaders are used to being accused of hate speech by Planned Parenthood, Hillary Clinton, and campus feminist activists. But they were surprised to hear Dr. Ben Carson seem to agree that they spewed "hateful" and "immature" rhetoric on Sunday.

When CBS moderator John Dickerson asked Dr. Carson whether Planned Parenthood was right that pro-life rhetoric had led to Friday's shooting inside a Colorado Springs abortion facility, the doctor readily agreed. There is "no question the hateful rhetoric exacerbates the situation," Carson said on "Face the Nation."

Pro-life advocates quickly rebuffed the notion that they had pushed 57-year-old Robert Lewis Dear to kill three people.

"Dr. Carson is sorely misinformed," Lauren Muzyka, the executive director of Sidewalk Advocates for Life, told LifeSiteNews.

"The only thing that's extreme is Planned Parenthood's desire to see abortion without restriction through all nine months of pregnancy while they capitalize off dismembering preborn children and parting them out for sale," she said.

"Planned Parenthood's day-to-day operations are very extreme," Muzyka continued. "Those who seek to shine a light into Planned Parenthood's real mission simply want to inform the public so Americans can shut down their deadly agenda through peaceful means such as defunding."

Police have not yet established a motive for Dear. However, federal authorities have tried to link the right to life movement with "domestic terrorism" since the Clinton administration's Violence Against Abortion Providers Conspiracy (VAAPCON) program in the 1990s.

"No one in the pro-life movement ever calls for violence in return, because it's diametrically opposed to our agenda to peacefully assist pregnant women-in-crisis and abortion workers who want to leave the business," said Muzyka, who leads a national network of people who counsel abortion-minded mothers outside abortion facilities.

The peaceful nature of sidewalk counselors has been affirmed by all nine Supreme Court justices. Last June, the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that sidewalk counselors engage in "caring, consensual conversations" with women considering abortion, striving to maintain "a caring demeanor, a calm tone of voice, and direct eye contact during these exchanges."

Dr. Ben Carson "must reacquaint himself with the pro-life movement he loves and claims" as his own, Muzyka told LifeSiteNews.

Her assessment was perhaps the softest of those who replied to Carson's comments.

“Doctor Carson just ended his presidential candidacy," Operation Rescue President Troy Newman told Breitbart News.

"Did Carson take his talking points from Planned Parenthood?" asked Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America. She accused the neurosurgeon of "furthering the deceitful narrative that the abortion industry has already laid out in the media."

"Facts are not hate speech, Dr. Carson," Ryan Bomberger of the Radiance Foundation told Breitbart. "Exposing the inner-workings of Planned Parenthood in an undercover investigation isn’t ‘hateful rhetoric’; it enables illuminating and civil discussion about inhumane barbarity."

The most recent Quinnipiac poll shows Dr. Carson, who once led the field in Iowa, falling to third place in the Hawkeye state, five points behind Senator Ted Cruz.

There is "no question the hateful rhetoric exacerbates the situation," Carson said on "Face the Nation."

See, this is all the Left needs.

They just need one Republican to come out and agree with them, or make a false equivalency statement, like when the Left lumps Israel in with the violence the Palestinians are causing.

So Carson (and Huckster) accepts the premise. Now the Left have total control of the narrative and will use this in the 2016 elections like how they ginned up the "War on Women." There'll be ads saying how even Carson is now "distancing" himself from the "extremist rhetoric" of the Republican Party.

Ben Carson is toast. He should just drop out now. However, the problem is with the open primary states, where dims will show up in droves to vote for Carson, knowing full well he’d get creamed if he ever made it to the general election.

Didn’t Ben just have a big meeting with Rove?
Is Rove trying to turn Ben into an establishment figure?

Carson is not ready for this game. Its not completely his fault, he was encouraged to get in when he wasn’t ready. He needed to have thought and studied and debated and traveled a bit before trying to do what he is trying to do.

Of course, you can’t predict when the stars are going to align for you, and they certainly did align for him, so he went for it and he’s had a good run. But he isn’t ready to play at this level.

He’s in good company. Most of the career politicians are wasting space on that stage too.

Perhaps the illustrious doctor could provide some examples of that 'hateful rhetoric'?

Why depend on the lamestream media narrative Ben, tell us where you've heard such things yourself?

I thought it was pretty well established it was a botched bank job. I saw what Laz said but he’d hit anything.

Note: this topic is from 11/30/2015. Thanks markomalley. It's easy to complain about this, but I've begun to wonder if this isn't a rope-a-dope technique of undermining closet pro-abort liars like Jebbie, Kasich, Christie, et al, by saying what they refuse to say in public, thus undermining them among Red Dog Republicans who hear this stuff and say, Carson has the guts to say it -- meanwhile there's even more interest in Trump, who's been known to be pro-abort in the past, among fence sitters, as well as increasing the commitment to Trump by those who supported him in the first place. And if Trump and Carson wind up together on the ticket, which begins to seem more likely, the Red Dogs wind up dragged kicking and screaming (more like wetting their pants and whimpering) to vote against the eventual Demagogic Party nominee.
