France, Germany, Canada call on world to put price on carbon

LE BOURGET, France — One of the smartest ways to fight global warming is putting a price on carbon dioxide pollution, some key world leaders said at Monday's international climate summit.

Either a tax on carbon dioxide emissions or trading carbon pollution like pork bellies, which puts a price on carbon, will help use capitalism to get closer to a day when the world isn't adding heat-trapping gases to the atmosphere, according to leaders of France, Germany, Canada, Chile, Mexico and Ethiopia, as well as heads of the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development.

The number of countries, provinces, states or cities putting a price on carbon has tripled in the past year and is now at 40, including some U.S. states, said World Bank Group President Jim Young Kim. Kim and others pointed to straight carbon taxes in British Columbia, Sweden and France as examples of what works.

Economists have known since 1923 that "smart economics puts a tax on bad things and not on good things," said World Resources Institute President Andrew Steer, a former Wharton economist who wasn't part of the multi-nation initiative on carbon pricing. He compared it to taxing cigarettes to reducing consumption, although other methods of trading carbon pollution credits aren't quite the same, he added.

"We simply cannot afford to continue polluting the planet at the current pace," World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim said. "Carbon pricing is critical for reducing emissions, preserving our environment and protecting the most vulnerable."

New Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said British Columbia's "world class" carbon tax proves such a device doesn't harm the economy.

Citizens of these nations need to rise up in revolt against their imbecilic leaders. Canada has a serious problem, as do we, in that they've elected another Trudeau commie as premier. Obama declared war on the climate, much to God's chagrin, and considers hordes of terrorists just a junior varsity gang.

The west's leaders have failed their constituents miserably and deserve being dethroned in disgrace. What more could one expect when liberal pansies are elected to rule and ruin our lives and our nations!

Another article states that gourmet chefs are cooking up a gastronomical storm to feed the 40,000 leaches that are attending this farcical Punch and Judy show.

None of weasels will be contributing a penny, but they will all benefit. The sunlight tax? the breath tax? the seeing tax? the walking tax. And you all have not figured it out yet? Our children and grandchildren are to be pitied as they will have no jobs, swollen stomachs and living with Muslim killers.

This might help save the ailing Deutsche Bank which, iirc, was a big early player in carbon trading.

Every human being emits carbon dioxide

If Merkel wants to take in a million new migrants, maybe she should pay by the head

The bloated Merkel may be thinking of a fart tax.

Easily accomplished. Attach an electronic counter on the arses of all citizens, then report in to the local government fart office and pay the tax.

For the life of me I cannot understand why anybody in Canada wants to address "global warming". We should be encouraging it.

1. If every Canadian stopped using "fossil fuels" tomorrow it would not affect world climate or "global warming" in the least.

2. You live in Canada and you wouldn't want: a longer growing season?, warmer, longer summers?, shorter, warmer winters?

Idiots.

Of course, cutting trees is an enormous source of carbon. Once cut they begin the return of their stored carbon to the atmosphere and the Earth.

Canada likes a “device” tax because even if one believes the BS about carbon being bad, Canada can hide in the shadows.

If someone proposed a tree severance tax, Canada would suddenly become “skeptical.”

Judging from the picture I guess Hollande has found better things to do than rid his country of Islamic terrorists.

Well, as long as we have leaders who put the interests of their citizens first, we’re OK.

Of course, I’m not talking about OUR worthless, evil leaders - I’m talking about the leaders of China, Russia, and India.

Yeah, you nuanced European DUMBSHITS, let’s limit the growth of plants.

Just because you nuanced houseplants want to go on a starvation diet, doesn’t mean the rest of the world wants to commit suicide using junk science.

Carbon dioxide?....Hmmm....didn’t Lincoln say the best way to get rid of a bad law is to enforce it rigorously?

Beer and soda contain CO2. I think the beer and soda companies manufacture it to make their products.

It is about time we put a carbon tax on beer and soda.

Did you really believe Hollande cared a few weeks ago? He and other EU leaders are putting on a pretense of fighting terrorism with plans that would make folks like George S. Patton and Douglas MacArthur laugh.

They are planning ‘recreational bombing’ to deal with ISIS while Russia puts them to shame every day with their bombing efforts.

You need boots on the ground to deal with this but even more you need boots to conquer the entire Middle East region and that isn’t going to happen since terrorist supporting nations like Saudi Arabia are friends of France, the UK, the US etc. etc. etc.

The front and center agenda for Hollande and other leaders is to use ‘climate change’ as an excuse to tear down the world’s economy as we know it and remake it to benefit corporate and banking elites destroying “old business” and replacing it with “new business”.

This is all about carbon trading. The big financial players want it because it’s the next great bubble. And those guys get what they want.
