Just to show you how there is a difference on how religions are treated by spell checkers, enter muslim and christian in the body of a thread. Muslim requires capitalization to be considered a correct spelling, christian does not.
Never knew.
My check capitalizes Muslim, Christian and Jewish. But the spell check on this forum does not capitalize Christian.
I noticed that as well because I refuse to capitalize muslim. It happens on this sight too.
Back in the mid 1990s, Microsoft Word offered “scummier” as a correction for “Schumer” ...
It depends on if you add it to your dictionary that way or not as well. In this thread Christian either capitalized or not were both acceptable, but muslim not capitalized wasn’t until I added it to my dictionary that way. I’m not sure if the custom dictionary in FireFox is set up that way or not, so I can’t say with 100% certainty that I hadn’t changed it, but I don’t know why I would set it up as described above.
Yeah you’re right. Both predictive and auto correct on my phone corrects all three. If I force small first letter for all then push ‘spell’ Christian is not capitalized. Now Christian can be also a proper name. But that should also be capitalized.

Both Microsoft Word and my i-Phone auto-capitalists “Christian”. I tried another forum that I use and it capitalized “Christian”. FReeRepublic must be using a spell check in their software that does not.
When Chuckie went to run against Al D’amato, Al called Chuckie ‘congressman putzhead ‘. They parlayed that into fodder and ousted ‘Senator Pothole’ despite Al’s economic benefits for the state of NY. (Al was and is a RINO...but the best one can expect from NY)

For several years now I have refused to capitalize islam, muslim, koran, & other muslim related words. It is my daily show of DISRESPECT for all things islamic.
What they mean to write in these stories about conservative Americans who believe in a fiscally-responsible government, is the word "Tea Party," a proper noun to name a specific group of people. It could also be written as an acronym, TEA Party (the Taxed Enough Already Party), but "tea party" is simply poorly-written.
I think the slight is intentional, but it stands out like fingernails on a blackboard whenever I see it.
I have MS word 2013 and get the following capitalized:
Lutheran, Presbyterian, Buddhist, Methodist Morman, Episcopalian, Zoroastrianism
The following are not:
jewish, islam, catholic, protestant, hindu, wiccan, evangelical
However, the following are:
Hebrew, Islamic, Catholicism, Protestantism, Hinduism
I could not get capitalization for other words like fundamentalist or wicca.
No surprise.
But I usually use the term mohammedan — without a capital “m” — even though it is longer to type. Began doing that a few years back when I learned that they don’t like to be called that. Also, I refuse to capitalize the name of their deity, satan, whom they call “allah”. Ditto for the name of their child-raping “prophet”.

I never use Muslim since they have made a big deal of Muslim over Moslem. The Moslems I knew referred to themselves as Moslems. This is all just an exercise to make the timid jump through PC hoops. Their aversion to Moslem is like the tap dance we are supposed to have gone through for blacks. Sorry, I don’t dance.
