Republicans brace for long battle against Donald Trump
CNN ^ | 12/5/2015 | MJ Lee

Donald Trump, defying skeptics and overcoming an avalanche of mockery from establishment Republicans, has extended his streak as the party's presidential frontrunner for almost five months.

With the Iowa caucuses less than two months away, Republican leaders are growing deeply alarmed by Trump's resilience. Anxious that his lead may not fade before the voting starts, GOP strategists have begun to brace for a long and painful nomination fight, with Trump's opponents hoping to grind him down over a period of months.

In a new CNN/ORC poll released Friday, Trump leads the GOP field of White House hopefuls at 36% -- his broadest support this cycle. In a distant second place is Ted Cruz at 16%, giving Trump his widest lead this year, followed by Ben Carson at 14% and Marco Rubio at 12%. Just two days before, a Quinnipiac University poll showed Trump on top at 27%, followed by Rubio at 17% and Carson and Cruz tied at 16%.

Nothing wrong with populism....the GOP should have turned that way in the 90s: fair trade, not free trade. Low LEGAL immigration. No illegal immigration. Get rid of Affirmative Action. This for a start would have saved the conservative movement.

They simply cannot comprehend that Trump is actually representing the people and they are not.

Represent? What a quaint 19th century concept.

The GOPe is here to rule and parasitize the population.

Nice, steel. Very accurate. TRUMP has never liked either party much, since Reagan. Neither do I.

It baffles me to this day that some of you see the Reagan platform Trump is hawking as Liberal.

In what freaking universe is Reagan’s platform Liberal?

Cut Taxes
Build up the Military
Cut Government spending
Get the budget under control
Secure our borders
Cut Government Departments
Pay down the debt
Jobs, jobs, jobs...
Increase government revenues with an expanding workforce
Gut Liberalism
Defund Planned Parenthood
Take care of veterans

Where’s the Liberalism in this?

For crying out loud folks, wake up and smell the roses.

News flash. The Donald is not a “conservative” in the accepted sense. Libertarian, perhaps, and with a broad streak of populism, but conservative, no.
News Flash! The guy everyone claims is the only true conservative (what a joke that is) is trying his damnedest to sound just like Trump...It's like an echo chamber...without the manly charisma.

Cruz is a me too/what about me? whining weenie.

President Trump Cabinet

Gov. Greg Abbott as Vice President

Department of State, (return INS.) Newt Gingrich
Department of Justice Rep. Steve King
Department of Treasury, (includes former Homeland Security - Customs) Carl Icahn (Offered and Accepted)
Department of War, (change the name back.) Include former VA function Gen. James Mattis
Department of Interior, (includes the legitimate functions only of former Dept. of Transportation, Dept. of Homeland Security - Border Patrol, and Energy Departments) Gov. Palin
Department of Labor and Commerce Herman Cain

This proposed model has the President directly managing seven subordinates which is optimal.

Department of Homeland Security ELIMINATE
Department of Education ELIMINATE as proposed by The Donald, 9/23/25 at a Columbia, SC Town Hall with Sen. Tim Scott.
Department of Energy ELIMINATE
Department of Health and Human Services ELIMINATE
Department of Housing and Urban Development ELIMINATE
Department of Veterans Affairs ELIMINATE
Department of Agriculture ELIMINATE
Department of Transportation ELIMINATE

On Fox news Sunday, 10/18/15 Trump said he would cut funding for EPA and Dept. of Ed.

In non-cabinet level jobs

Gen. Peter Pace as National Security Adviser
Sheriff Clarke should be FBI Director
Michelle Bachman as IRS Commissioner under Secretary Carl Icahn in Treasury
Admiral James A. Ace Lyons as Undersecretary of War Navy Branch.
LTC Allen West as Undersecretary of War Army Branch.
Lt. Gen. Tom McInerney as Undersecretary of War Air Force Branch.
Ted Nugent as Undersecretary of Interior
Lynnette Diamond Hardaway and Rochelle Silk Richardson would be great as President Trumps Co-Press Secretaries.

Marsha Blackburn, Speaker of the House
Ted Cruz as Senate Majority Leader.

Well, there's a pic of a couple of winners.

Trump likes to be unpredictable....

Could be Palin.

With Cruz parked at AG till a Supreme bows out.

Wait! What? Shouldn’t the GOP be digging in against Hillary the Democrat instead of their own leading candidate?

“When we get closer to this...the decision will be made by voters really on the following things: Do you have ideas that will make my life better? Do you have the fortitude, the leadership skills to make it happen?...Do you care about me?” he said in Iowa. “Do you care about the condition that I’m in? And, look, my life experience is 32 years in business, eight years as a reform minded governor. I think overtime that, that kind of skillset that I’ve acquired through my life experience will be helpful to me for sure.”

I swear this sounds like someone running for Class President instead of someone running for the President of the United States.

There is no difference between GOPe and Psuedo-conservatives. They are both one issue voters. The GOPe has #1 issue the Cheap labor express...more H1-B visa’s, more low skilled legal immigrants, and path to legal status for illegals already here breaking our immigration laws. The psuedo-conservatives are mainly neocons or 1 issue social conservatives.

Him not paying attention is the only explanation as to why a staunch conservative would vote for Trump over Cruz.

Sorry to tell you, but he doesn't like Cruz at all.

I did try to change his mind on Cruz, too, but to no avail and yes, I did REALLY try.

No need to worry about pseudo-conservatives when you can support a real conservatives like Ted Cruz. Someone who is passionate about supporting a flat tax, originalist judges, traditional marriage, pro-life issues, repealing Obamacare, reforming government entitlements, deregulating business, ignoring the global warming hype, wiping ISIS out, securing the border, stopping amnesty, ending the unconstitutional surveillance state, keeping the Cuba embargo, ending the EXIM bank, etc.

Then he’s not a staunch conservative or he’s extremely uninformed.

Cruz is way to weak on illegals. Deporting 11-30 million illegals is the most urgent issue in United States. No other advanced country has anywhere near this problem.

He IS a staunch CONSERVATIVE; you don't know him...I do.

Yes, he's been VERY busy and hasn't been able to pay as much attention to things as he usually does; however, just because he doesn't like Cruz, doesn't make him into someone who isn't a Conservative.

Your blinkered biase is showing; didums.
