On Tuesday, the Superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District announced that all schools would be shut down today due to an unspecified terror threat. According to ABC News, that threat also carries “unknown credibility.” Bus drivers say they have been returned to their bus depots. LAUSD is the nation’s second-largest school district, with 640,000 students and 900 schools; children range from kindergarten to 12th grade.

Why are a lot of you being so flippant?.

Well before the jihadi threat, when I went to High School, there were dozens of bomb threats called in to the office of the school. Each time, we were ushered from the building without fail while the building was cleared.

That some of those calls were made by students is a certainty.

The threat is sufficient to disrupt, because every one must be taken seriously. Act on a bogus threat, and you look like a fool and activities are disrupted. Fail to act and anything blows up, and all Hell would break loose.

Likewise. In my freshman year, which is way too far in the past, there were threats called in every other day for about 2 months. Turned out, twin girls who did not like gym class where going across the street to a small store and using the pay phone to call in threats when the they were scheduled for class. They were expelled. The threats stopped.

Agree, however shutting down 900 schools, affecting hundreds of thousands of kids, hundred of thousands of parents not being able to go to work?...This seems very extreme.

People in the region are saying they've never seen anything like this.

Now hearing this is “bigger” than a bomb threat. These AH’s should come right out and tell the people WTF it is.

Use good intel procedures and tell enough info out to get these bastards behind these threats to panic, make a mistake and get caught or eliminated.

We had a clarion of some sort that would ring (it was the fire drill sound), we'd all get up and go outside (and sometimes grab a smoke if we could). Perhaps two police cars would show up. Someone would search the building and then we'd go back in. I don't think our town had a bomb squad. It took about twenty minutes in our little high school. There must be a football field or something. The kids could sit there with their teachers until the all clear is given.

When I was in high school (back in the olden days) bomb threats were a dime a dozen, especially during Spring. Sad how times have changed.

Two diffferent threats, I think. Bratton is remarking about a threat in NYC, which was deemed not credible. He’s not making a comment about the LA threat.
