United States held secret communications with Assad's regime for years in a bid to limit violence in Syria, officials claim

U.S. officials held secret communications with members of President Bashar al-Assad's government for years to try to limit the violence in Syria, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.

President Barack Obama's administration explored ways to encourage a military coup in 2011 as the civil war in the country got underway.

American intelligence officials identified army officers belonging to Assad's minority Alawite sect who could lead a coup, but they found few weak spots to exploit, the Journal said, citing interviews with more than two dozen people, including current and former U.S. officials.

So all this “Red Line” saber rattling was political posturing...?

No. I don’t think so. Obama doesn’t represent administrations of the past. He represents the muslim brotherhood. There was another article linked on FR today about how Britain has been investigating the brotherhood and the findings aren’t good.

I should add that I believe Obama wanted us to go to war with Syria. That is what the muzzie brotherhood wanted. We did it in Libya. We supported the overthrow in Egypt.

Everywhere you look, you will find obama policy tied to that of the muzzie brotherhood. We need to ditch CAIR too.

If not for resistance from Russia and a few others, we would have overthrown Syria by now. It would all be in the hands of the muzzie brotherhood.

Concur...thus my comment about political posturing...

By building a false narrative that Assad was willing to cross a imaginary red line, (unconfirmed gassing of his own people) he was was trying to get the world moved to action...

You are correct.

I believe Assad is a bad guy but the administration has been trying to create a false narrative about a lot of things. During our war with Iraq, Christians fled to Syria because they knew it was one of the few places in the middle east where they would be protected. The administration tries to make Assad to be a ruthless brutal dictator but he has always protected Christians. I consider that to be a conflicting narrative.

And I also believe that a lot of those that Assad killed were terrorists. If we had people in the USA trying to overthrow our government, what do you think our leaders would do? The same thing Assad did.

Lots of good it did. Obama is the reason why the middle east is in so much turmoil and the direct result is ISIS.

His enemies may not be my ‘friends’ but I would back them over him (Putin, for instance) Sad, when our president has sunk so low that i consider him the evil one.

Well there are at least two of us here at FR who understands Obama. I'm not sure how many others do.

Obama is a Sunni Muslim who supports the Muslim Brotherhood and refuses for all practical purposes to fight the Sunnis of ISIS. He has helped advance the Sunni expansion in Egypt, Iraq, Syria and Libya. Only in Egypt has there been any significant resistance due to the fortunate displacement of the Muslim Brotherhood by General Sisi.

The 2016 election will see a battle by the Democrat Party to retain this Wahabi Sunni influence in our government. Obama will be gone but if Hillary wins you can expect to see a Muslim sitting as Secretary of State, probably Huma Abedin.

I don’t see Huma as Secretary of State. I believe she will play a role more like that of Valerie Jarrett. That would mean two consecutive presidents with their top advisors being muzzies.

I believe her Secretary of State would be Obama’s nutcase UN Ambassador Samantha Power. She and Hillary go a long way back.

But you’re 100% correct in Obama’s support of the muzzie brotherhood. They have infiltrated our government and Obama has put them in a lot of high places within our government. The actions he’s taken against ISIS are only for show. We fly sorties but don’t drop bombs. Rarely do we kill any of them.

"U.S. officials held secret communications with members of President Bashar al-Assad's government for years to try to limit the violence in Syria,..."

Why bother about the internal affairs of Syria. It's not America's business. Let them murder each other out of existence! It's the height of arrogance of the American political ruling class to think that they have the right to commit the treasure and lives of American citizens to solve an alien peoples' civil war and problems.
