Environmentalists file intent to sue federal agencies over power plant ( Four Corners )
Durango Herald ^ | December 24, 2015 | Jonathan Romeo

Groups question keeping Four Corners Power Plant open for 25 more years.

A coalition of environmental groups has filed a notice of intent to sue the Office of Surface Mining, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and others over a July decision to allow the Four Corners Power Plant to operate through 2041.

A coalition of environmental groups announced earlier this week its intent to take legal action against several federal agencies for extending operations at the Four Corners Power Plant and Navajo Mine just outside Farmington.

On Dec. 21, San Juan Citizen Alliance, among other regional and national conservation groups, filed a 60-day notice of intent to sue the Office of Surface Mining, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and others over a July decision to allow the plant to operate until 2041.

...

The group claims that by approving an extension to Four Corners Power Plant, the U.S. government violates the Endangered Species Act, the Administrative Procedure Act and the National Environmental Policy Act, calling the plant “among the most notorious for coal contamination in the country.”

...

The 52-year old power plant and coal mine is in the Navajo Nation, about 15 miles southwest of Farmington, and operated by Arizona Public Service Company.

...

The lawsuit brings together conservation groups Diné Citizens Against Ruining Our Environment, San Juan Citizens Alliance, Amigos Bravos, Center for Biological Diversity,\ and Sierra Club. They are represented by attorneys Shiloh Hernandez, Matt Kenna, Kyle Tisdel and Laura King of the Western Environmental Law Center and John Barth and Michael Saul of Center for Biological Diversity.

“When the millennials are without power or heat and start dying off will they be surprised?”

When that happens, I just hope the millenials take full advantage of all the available lamp posts. Environazis are right behind muzzies on my list of those who need to go.

Conservatives need to be aware that the leftists have been pulling this stunt to great effect for quite a while now.

Some leftist group sues the leftist government agency, that “throws the game” in court, then they insist that the court *ordered* them to do what the leftist group wanted.

Importantly, once there is a conservative government, we should do *exactly* the same stunt against them. That is, conservative groups should sue federal agencies to *stop* their abuses, and the conservative cabinet officer then does not oppose the lawsuit.

In this way, through the use of lawsuits, conservatives can cancel all kinds of tyrannical government regulations.

But there needs to be a twist, a way to “put the nail in the coffin” of most of these obscene laws and regulations, so that they cannot be brought back from the dead by the next leftist government.

So they sue. What are they proposing as an alternative, other than eagle killing windmills?

“When the millennials are without power or heat and start dying off will they be surprised?”

Some environmentalists actually wish a great number of people would die off.
They see humanity as a burden to “mother earth”.

“power plant and coal mine is in the Navajo Nation”

Wonder where the Navajo nation stands on this. A fair number of jobs at stake, I bet.

A lot of these ‘environmentalist’ subsist on massive trust funds - sometimes more than one with monthly checks of 40K or more; many live in the Pacific North West and Northern CA where most of the power they use comes from hydroelectric dams on the Columbia River - all of which they are attempting to have torn down - its for the fish you know.

When they succeed there will be no power generation left in WA State, for one, as these people long ago got the WOOPS nuclear plants shuttered.

They live in a world most of us cannot imagine so filled with fantasy and the make believe, the pretend and so on. To a person, most of them are money grubbing elite hypocrites.

Everyone opposed to the Four Corners plant should simply refuse to utilize power from it and anything produced or derived from that power.
