I hope I’m not abusing my “ping list” privileges, but this interview and tribute to a true American Hero may be off topic, but they are really worth watching this Christmas season. I don’t want any FReeper who is part of the core of this organization to miss this remarkable story.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, the Revolutionary WAr or Wisconsin interest ping list. You know which list you are on, and I promise not to ping you to topics that are not your main interest — at least until I see another compelling one.
WOW is an understatement. Makes the tears of gratitude flow.

While the names were changed in that book, he followed, pretty carefully, the main timeline and the salient points of the first battle in WWIII.
Every real story of Gail Halvorson I have seen since then told the same story from a slightly different perspective. It's, simply, a great story in the middle of a great story.
Nice! Thank you.
And a very Merry Christmas to you.
There is a photo from the Berlin Airlift that I saw once, but have never been able to find again. It is heart wrenching.
It shows two tall American pilots standing next to their aircraft after having delivered food to Berlin, looking casual. They have just noticed, standing in front of them is a little girl, little older than a toddler, barefoot in a tattered rag dress and tousled hair, holding up her rag doll to them, as if to offer it to them for the food they have delivered.
It needed no caption.
Colonel Halverson is a gem. His story is one that speaks to adults and children alike. The whole Berlin Airlift is amazing, a testament to determination and compassion.
The Berlin Airlift is a shining point in American history. Germans of that era have never forgotten.
I shudder to think what the Obummer/Skerry response to the Sov’s would have been. Pretty sure they would have given them West Berlin.
