Still thinking on which Dickinson character that might be. In some ways it is similar to Pip’s benefactor in Great Expectations - but the temperament of personality is not agreeable. Dickens showed the character to be totally rough, not filed around the edges. But in his heart he was found to be a somewhat likable,loyal guy - you had to search for it.
