Why would anyone want to support a candidate who didn’t decide he wanted to stop being a Canadian citizen until he thought he could have a successful political career in the U.S. instead of in Canada. Cruz is just political opportunist who is calling himself a conservative because he thinks it gives him a better chance to win.

It is not, by definition, a lie, but refers to a usually scorned method of arguement. Hence my reply.
OOps, I re-read your reply and got what you were saying. OK, if you are in a Princeton debate, an ad hominem attack is illegitimate. My point was that Trump engaged in the same kind of ad hominem himself, by way of his Obama Birther cred.
