An inquiry has been launched into claims police in Sweden purposely downplayed a string of sexual assaults at a music festival. Prime Minister Lofven decried the "betrayal" of young women.
The Swedish police ordered an investigation on Monday after national media made explosive allegations about the cover-up of sexual assault claims. The reports suggested that a number of teenage girls reported being molested by mostly migrant young men at a music festival in August.
Allegedly a group of some 50 suspects carried out the assaults at the "We are Sthlm" youth festival, which attracts thousands of every year and also saw reports of sexual violence in 2014.
Prime Minister Stefan Lofven called it "a double betrayal of these young women," in an interview with the "Expressen" newspaper. "It has not been prosecuted and handled in the way we would wish. The second is that police did not inform or tell about these problems."
The incidents have drawn comparisons to the attacks on women in the German city of Cologne on New Year's Eve.
Far-right on a roll
At the time, police characterized the event as having "relatively few crimes." Some officials have even defended the move, saying there were worries the reports could boost sympathy for the far-right.
"This is a sore point. Sometimes we dare not tell how it is because we think it plays into the hands of the Sweden Democrats," said 2014 event organizer Peter Agren to the Swedish press.
Some 163,000 asylum seekers arrived in Sweden in 2015. Although the center-left government has tightened border checks, including controls at the frontier with Denmark, the Sweden Democrats have continued to gain support in the wake of the migrant crisis.
Swedish newspaper "Dagens Nyheter" described the assaults, with 20 complaints being lodged in 2015, 14 of which regarded girls under age 15, and 18 similar complaints in 2014, committed mostly by Afghan young men.
"We have to get to the bottom of this," said national police chief Dan Eliasson on Monday, promising political circumstances would play no role in the investigation.

One of the problems is that Europeans have defined anybody who objects as “far right.” This is certainly not the case, since even the average apolitical Swede is unlikely to enjoy being mugged or raped by an easily identifiable protected group. At the same time, they don’t want to be called “far right” (evoking Hitler) by objecting.
I think more and more average citizens, however, are suddenly realizing that something has got to be done. They’re not far right and are as socialist and one-worldist as everybody else: but they just want to live to see the morning and have their families and children intact.

Deliberately suppressing the news causes each person to think it is a one off, rare thing.
It takes reporting to know it is an invasion and assault en masse.
That’s true. But don’t they have internet access like we do? It’s hard to suppress news anymore.

When a lot of people post on social media “we saw this”, it could be a hoax or repeat of the same few videos.
It gets more credibility when the local news says “a thousand Muslim men showed up to New Years celebrations in Cologne, mobbing and molesting women”.
After that news report, the number of reported assaults jumped from around 150 to 450, meaning 300+ women who HAD been assaulted didn’t report it until they knew others had as well.
And only after the 450+ assaults in Cologne hit the news plus that idiot Mayor saying women should be at arm’s length that the reports from a dozen other German cities came out, though not as large a scale as Cologne. That was 7-9 days AFTER the attacks.
Only after German police turned water cannons on German protesters of the anti-immigrant rally, as well as discussion as to what they were protesting, are we now hearing of LAST YEAR’s assaults on under-aged girls at a summer music concert and this New Year’s in Sweden, Norway and other countries.
Now we have evidence of a liberal conspiracy - don’t report the truth, because it gives fuel to the anti-immigrant movement.
Multiculturalism has truly trumped feminism, when rapes of women are less important than tarnishing the reputation of the rapists.
