-— The clip comes from today’s “Meet the Press” and tells, as only video can, the story of the ideological, um, evolution of Donald J. Trump, presidential candidate. It’s a remarkable four minutes that speaks to why the idea of Trump as a tea party conservative is sort of hard to believe. -—

“Trump as a Tea Party candidate is hard to believe.”

Some people have to learn the hard way.

Trump is doing well because of RoboCop.

Remember how that movie portrayed the public? They had world news in 30 seconds which interrupted "I'd buy that for a dollar!". The public was too stupid to have any clue what was going on, even nuclear explosions could be easily explained away, then back to the game show.

Rush Limbaugh - EIB [Jan 12, 2016]

“...The next Politico story. “Trump’s ‘Strange New Respect’ Moment — You saw it here first,” says The Politico. “The media is coming around to the mogul. Having survived public thrashings from his political foes and the press for his policy proposals, his increasingly outrageous speeches, and his personality, Donald Trump now finds himself receiving strange new respect from unexpected corners.

“If you’re not familiar with the ‘strange new respect’ trope, a short primer. The American Spectator’s Tom Bethell introduced the concept in a 1992 article to ridicule the practice of liberal journalists who would reward conservative politicians who migrated from right to left by commenting in print on how they were now commanding ‘strange new respect.’”

Another way of putting it was, this politician is showing growth. Why, he’s actually growing. That meant becoming liberal. Transferring from conservative to liberal. So what they’re now saying is that Trump is a recipient of strange new respect just like McCain had it. All of a sudden the media’s coming around now. They have a strange new respect for Trump. They’re trying to say it signals the end of the guy. Just like when they said McCain had it, you know, McCain did, McCain fell for it, he thought the media was his base. He thought the media would never abandon him.

There are those of us that tried to tell him, Senator McCain, the minute you have a Democrat opponent, this love affair is over and the media is gonna be all over you and hate you. (imitating McCain) “It’s not gonna happen, it’s not gonna happen, because I spent years and years building these relationships, isn’t gonna happen.” And it happened. So they’re trying to run the same shtick here on Trump. But they’re still amazed that all of a sudden the media is now treating Trump with newfound respect.”

I will admit that I can’t understand Trump’s stance on Ethanol. I am in line with Cruz whom I understand is against the subsidies, but later came out and said he would be in favor of a phase out of the subsidies. Maybe it’s a case where the actions support the goal, ie to win. Once he wins, he’ll take CRuz’s line on Ethanol. Then again, I don’t know the facts. For example, does the gov’t pay these guys to make Ethanol? Do we pay them cash, tax incentives or what? Secondly, what do they use corn cobs which are good for nothing but lighting your woodburning stove, or real food, like corn. If it’s actually food that they’re using, then that is pure and simply “terrible!” Also, thirdly, is Ethanol good for our cars and in the long run our economy? I hardly think so. But then again don’t know.

I liked Newt in 2012 race, and in fact he was ahead in the polls until Romney started with the negative ads, and the misinformation, then Santorum followed suit, and Paul Ryan piled on. And then our guy is out.

I guess what I’m saying is that this is the way politics work in this country. You play to win. Trump, like the others, throws some twists of the truth out there just like the rest of them...but by far NOT the worst (You don’t think Rubio is ten times worse?). The democrats are full of straw men. Hillary thought she could score some quick points going after Trump as a sexist until she got slapped silly.

But with Trump the monikers stick. He likes Cruz probably more than any other candidate, but he’s going to do what it takes to win.

In short, Cruz is for Ethanol subsidies, TRump is not. That is my understanding. Is this true or not?

What's amazing to me, is watching so many of the Cruz fans trying so hard to take down the one man they should be lauding.

Instead of thanking Trump for taking the heat and pushing positions to the forefront that Cruz supporters all like, they revile him.

Instead of realizing that the shot Cruz has been given has been paved in gold by Trump, they act like the scorpion who is crossing the river on the frog's back.

*Sigh* Thankfully, we only have to watch this for a couple of more months before someone wins.....

And you know for a fact that the vast majority of FReepers who support Trump WILL vote for Cruz if perchance he is able to wrest the nomination away from Trump. We put the best interest of our Nation ahead of our personal political preferences (up to a point, Jeb Bush and his ilk are still a definite “NO SALE”), but the rabid Trump-hating supporters of Cruz?

If Cruz doesn’t get the nomination and/or isn’t on the ticket with Trump, they’ll all stay home and stew in their own juices.

And what a sour tasting batch of hootch that’s gonna be.

I flush 'em just like I do any spam messages and/or junk flyers in my mailbox.

You want my mailing address? You could send them directly to me, I'll collect the German postage, and I'll have some extra toilet paper for these cold West Virginia winters.

Thanks, you're a sweetheart B_F

You know my preference has been Cruz, it's been the same since he announced. Fortunately, most people for Cruz (75%?) don't take that position, but like me will support Trump to the max is he win the nomination.

The phenomenon you've just cited is unfortunately true. I have to say, it kind of makes me sick.
