Taiwanâs Democratic Progressive Party yesterday scored a landslide victory, making Dr Tsai Ing-wen the islandâs first woman president and gaining control of the legislature for the first time.
The stunning victory gives pres elect, Tsai and her party sweeping authority to shape policies and negotiate with Beijing, which has long eyed the pro-independence DPP with suspicion.
Tsai hailed the result of freedom on Taiwan. She pledged to unite Taiwan, gain respect around the world and warned Beijing: âOur democratic system, national identity and international space will be respected.
Formosa, Republic of China has but about half the land area of Texas but an almost identical independent attitude.

If their attitude of independence mirrors that of Texas I applaud them for that alone.

I have read that they really don’t have the ability to defend their island on their own.
