Donald Trump Calls Chief Justice John Roberts a 'Nightmare for Conservatives'
ABC News ^

Posted on 01/17/2016 11:50:22 AM PST by springwater13

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump said Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts has "turned out to be a nightmare for conservatives," and put some of the blame for Roberts' presence on the Court on 2016 rival Sen. Ted Cruz.

"Cruz fought like hell to get Justice Roberts in there. Justice Roberts turned out to be an absolute disaster, he turned out to be an absolute disaster because he gave us Obamacare." Trump told ABC News chief anchor George Stephanopoulos on “This Week” Sunday.

Trump repeatedly went after Cruz, who served as a law clerk for Supreme Court Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist from 1996 to 1997, saying Cruz supported Roberts when he was nominated to the Court in 2005.

Trump noted that Roberts had two opportunities to overturn the Affordable Care Act, which was most recently upheld by the Supreme Court last summer, adding that Roberts "gave us Obamacare. Almost as much as [President] Obama himself."

"Justice Roberts could've killed Obamacare and should've, based on everything - should've killed it twice," Trump said. "Ted Cruz is the one that was promoting him."

Demoting Roberts would not end his tenure on the bench . . . just his place on that bench.

Roberts is Chief Justice for life. He was part of helping GW in the 2000 lawsuit with Al Gore so Jebbie pushed Roberts really hard on Dubya. I read Jeb was instrumental in getting Roberts the job. Did not know about Cruz but he was party of the Bush campaign so it makes sense. A stealth candidate is hard to weed out. Look at Suter and OConnell.

And who does he think would be good on the supreme court?

His sister:

Like so many of the infiltrators, he seemed pretty good at the time. Still, I’d have to say, that if the Congress had passed what Obama got passed, Bush would probably have signed it.

By Irish law, children who are adoptees, have to be adopted in the country by Irish Citizens.

Roberts adopted two Irish children via Nicaragua,IIRC. The records are sealed, so it might be some other Latin American country, but I think it was Nicaragua.

Roberts is a Conservative judge, everybody loved his nomination. How were we to know he was corrupt?

-- Hindsight is 20/20. I didn't see a single complaint here on FR when he was appointed. --

Not many, that's for sure. A few thought he dodged some questions. But I don;t think but maybe one or two posters here have the same sort of time and insider view of how a judge works and rules. That is, we aren;t in a position to be composing disclosures for the principal's consideration.

That said, some people are slick, and elude detection. Roberts is one such.

We didn’t, but the guy hawking him damn well should have. “Constitutional Expert Ted”

Look, folks are trashing Trump for his possible nominees.

It isn’t of interest to know Cruz pushed the guy off on us that single-handedly gave us Obamacare?

The SCOTUS nominee appointments are now a mute issue.

We already know how careful Cruz would be.

In all fairness, how else can I see this?

I don’t recall anyone on the right opposing the Roberts nomination.

In any case Trump blaming Cruz is stupid. Was Trump even a Republican yet at the time?

Roberts gives us 95% of what we want and outside of the Obamacare ruling has been solid in his rulings.

Nothing I’ve seen or heard indicates that we should expect anything better then Breyer from Trump.. in fact, it could be a lot worse. I notice Donald doesn’t give us any details on how he would pick judges

Besides Lawrence tribe who does he like for the Supreme Court? He hates Golia and when he attacks Kalia he basically took on an issue that Clarence Thomas is closely identified so he really wouldn’t like Clarence Thomas.

Couldn’t Donald Trump just and the Supreme Court and make all legal decisions himself? Go Trump!

Actually, Trump’s Sister was appointed to the Bench by President Reagan. Trump making a complimentary passing remark about his Sister does not denote her being appointed to the SCOTUS by him. She is way too old anyway.

When asked, Trump has repeatedly said that Justice Thomas is his favorite Justice and he has complimented both Alito and Scalia numerous times.

In fact, Trump’s Sister testified in support of Samuel Alito at his Senate Conformation Hearing.

Due to these facts, your Post is irrelevant.. Cruz is my guy, but silly things like this do nothing to convince anyone to change their minds regarding Trump.

There are so many stealth candidates in both houses that it’s sickening. This was the real coup, getting enough infiltrators in there. Which leaves us with what we have now, a dictatorship basically.

>>>Besides Lawrence tribe who does he like for the Supreme Court?<<<

He said he likes Lawrence Tribe for the Supreme Court?
He has said that he would like someone like Justice Thomas.

In my best Johnny Carson, I did not know that?
I await your link.

Is Roberts chief justice for life? Or can he be rotated out of the chief’s seat and back benched by a new president? Can a new president name a new chief?"

All federal judges are appointed for life.
They can only be removed by impeachment in
the House of Representatives and conviction in the Senate.
