I’ll never forget the cover of Life magazine shortly after the 1967 war. It was a photograph of a sea of empty Arab boots.
The Arabs had literally kicked them off to accelerate their retreat from the Israeli army.
Had the Israelis continued on today there would be Moshe Dayan delicatessens in Cairo and Hebrew would be the first language. Little children would be sporting eye patches in honor of the hero.
Or the Russians would have involved themselves directly. 49 years later, it’s still far from a welcome development.
