John Roberts Should Be a Quick Confirm.
National Review ^ | July 20, 2005 | Senator Ted Cruz

Posted on 01/18/2016 3:10:56 PM PST by true believer forever

"As an individual, John Roberts is undoubtedly a principled conservative, as is the president who appointed him. He clerked for Chief Justice Rehnquist, worked in the Reagan White House, and served as the principal deputy solicitor general in President George H.W. Bush's Justice Department.

As a jurist, Judge Roberts' approach will be that of his entire career: carefully, faithfully applying the Constitution and legal precedent.

He is a mainstream judge, respected across the ideological spectrum. Thus, he's earned praise from liberal icons such as Harvard Law Professor Larry Tribe, and Chicago Law Professor Cass Sunstein, as well as from Clinton Solicitors General Walter Dellinger and Seth Waxman, and Carter and Clinton Counsel Lloyd Cutler, the latter two of whom both described Roberts as a man of "unquestioned integrity and fair-mindedness."

As Professor Tribe observed Tuesday night, "It is clear that in the absence of some serious objection that is not now visible . . . he is very likely to be confirmed.”

The Senate should confirm him swiftly."

““That was a mistake and I regret that” is what Cruz said about his support of Roberts”

Perfection cannot have “mistakes”.

[As an individual, John Roberts is undoubtedly as principled conservative, as is the president who appointed him.]

No truer words... Thanks Ted.

Wow, I totally missed that.

A father compliments his daughter and only a sleezy mind would turn it into something incestuous.

“A lot of us were Roberts supporters back then. I certainly was.”

That is correct. Think about that when talking about Trump and some of the things he has done in the distant past.

“OH PLEASE. Roberts had EVERYONE fooled. I don’t think you can blame him for John Roberts.”

NONE of us knew Roberts. Ted knew him for decades

Ted Cruz recruited Roberts TWICE. They’d been friends for years. Bush had never heard of him. Cruz is the reason we have Obamacare and all that grandstanding against it was just that.

The hypocrisy is rank around here.

Name for me the freepers who were sounding the alarm on Roberts back when he was confirmed.

Thats right, no one was.

Would you rather have Kagan or Sotomayor than Roberts?

“OH PLEASE. Roberts had EVERYONE fooled. I don’t think you can blame him for John Roberts.”

But, Ted is very, very smart. He has a Harvard degree. Princeton too. And he is a “principled conservative” as he points out.

He also called Roberts a “principled conservative.” He would know. He’s smart. He has a Harvard degree and one from Princeton too.

Is it that Ted can’t really identify a “principled conservative”, or that it doesn’t mean what he thinks it does?

How can you be a “principled conservative” with any certainty, be so smart (he has a Harvard degree and another degree from Princeton I hear) and misidentify another principled conservative???

It is very strange. And I like Ted (I do not like his Goldman Sachs wife, but that is another issue).

“Perfection cannot have “mistakes”.

Trump is the perfect candidate so supporting every liberal cause and politician for the last 20 years could not have been a mistake.

Uh, Ronald Reagan nominated O'Connor, and Kennedy.

Move along, unbeliever.

Actually, I think I'll stay right here, but thanks for the invite.

Cruz is NOT the reason we have Obamacare. The Democrats are.

There seem to be an unusual number of delusional people on FR these days.

There was a guy so flawed that he couldn’t see the unconstitutional nature of his ruling, and Ted says, “Oops!”

The Democrats themselves had argued it wasn’t a new tax. John ruled that it was. Just baffling... he changed the arguments all by himself. A freshman in law school could have seen a problem with that.

Now Ted wants me to put him into a position where he may get to nominate more like Roberts? Oops! Oops! Oops!

Some folks slam Trump because he made a joke about his sister, and this thing with Ted is NO JOKE.

None the less, Ted is okay, a great Conservative, and Trump is the bad guy.

There is a disconnect of massive proportions taking place here.

If we’re going to be honest with some of Trump’s flaky problems, we need to be honest about Ted Cruz’ flaky problems too.

So far, I see no evidence of that whatsoever.

Whatever syndication company owns the Judge Judy show. By now, maybe she owns the show.
