'Affluenza' teen may have been forced to flee to Mexico: attorney

Lawyers for the Texas teenager who killed four people in the "affluenza" drunken-driving case and was captured in Mexico said on Tuesday they are investigating whether the 18-year-old chose to flee or was forced. Judge Timothy Menikos of Tarrant County juvenile court deferred a ruling on a move to transfer Ethan Couch's case to adult court because his parents were not adequately notified about the proceedings.Tarrant County prosecutors contended Couch is responsible for his own absence by fleeing to Mexico. His mother was returned to Texas and faces a third-degree felony charge, accused of helping her son flee, that could result in a 10-year prison sentence if she is convicted. The teen's parents are divorced, and his father was not present in court on Tuesday.

And it's still the parent's fault. Hey, that excuse worked so well last time.

Affluenza was to describe guilt for being rich.

Forced to flee? That's a brilliant ploy on the part of the kid's lawyers! A bribable judge now has a plausible reason to let the kid go. All the lawyers need do now is find that bribable judge.

He’s 18? Put MOM in jail on kidnap charges. That’s probably a 20 year stretch in Texas. LOL

A Mexican migration official said Tuesday that Couch's transfer to the United States is not imminent.

"First, (Couch's lawyers) have to withdraw the legal challenge ... and even then it would take another month," said Ricardo Vera, the top migration official in Mexico's central Jalisco state where Couch's legal case is being handled.

Well a few months stay in a Mexican jail could do the punk some good.

Lawyers know a lot of tricks, and they know the ropes. There are oodles, and scads of people fleeing the LONG ARM of JUSTICE living now in Mexico. The lawyers know the catch, how to get a fake I.D. Personally, I KNOW what I am talking about. Just believe me.

Yeah, the Mexicans are so “altruistic” when it comes to “protecting” our citizens “rights!” FWIW, we should leave him there in their jail and see how he likes their “hospitality!”

So, when he was originally convicted, he avoided jail by arguing that his parents never set any limits for him, and let him do what he wants.

And now, he’s trying to avoid jail again by arguing that his mother forced him to flee.

Brilliant!

Oh, I don't know this is a pretty dangerous maneuver I think.

Who forced the young man to flee? His mother I am guessing.

If that is their game the mother then may be up for kidnapping charges which takers her from a third degree felony to first degree felony kidnapping and federal prison.

The mother is in JAIL in Texas and it doesn’t look like she’s going to be getting out.

Well of course his lawyers would say that.
They aren’t paid to tell the truth.

In that case, kidnapping would be a federal crime.

If he was forced to go there against his will, why is he fighting so hard against coming back?

I think daddy got him the luxury accommodations. He’s not having to rough it with the ordinary criminals in the regular jail.
